Netflix and Hulu have become a staple in our everyday lives. We use these sites to watch movies both old and new, to watch television shows we may have missed when they were shown live on T.V. or even old shows from the 90's that we want to watch again.
You hear about the popular shows that people like such as Friends, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, and Gossip Girl but you rarely hear about other shows that may be a little less popular, the underrated shows. These are shows that people don't really talk about which in turn are rarely ever watched.
1. Friends From College
This show is fairly new to Netflix. With some amazing actors and a humorous story line, this is a mixture
This show is about friends who reunite after years of not seeing each other to living just blocks away from each other in New York City. Twists and turns and drama make the story line entertaining and along with the witty sense of humor you'll never stop laughing.
2. Grace and Frankie
I have watched this show since Season 1 premiered, also on Netflix, and I could watch it
This show is a journey through their new lives along with keeping up with their ex-husbands and their children. Trying to make it on their own (together) after many years of being married, this show is charming and witty and teaches you that it is never too late to find yourselves.
3. American Grit
To break up the streak of sitcoms, this show, on Hulu, hosted by John Cena, takes ordinary people who are going through tough times in their lives and teaches them how to find their grit. How to find their strength and how to move on from what is holding them back in life.
The contestants are playing for money but to them, it is worth much more than that. They are playing to find their grit. Being broken up into teams, and players being eliminated each week, they will be tested on strength, trust, and perseverance.
Yes, this show is very entertaining but it is meant to teach the viewers more than that. It is meant to show that you can overcome all obstacles if you have the drive to do so.
4. The Good Place
The Good Place (Hulu), starring Kristen Bell, is about a woman who passes away after a tractor trailer mishap and ends up in "The Good Place." A heaven-like place where you are rewarded to go after you have lived a righteous life.
However, Eleanor, played by Kristen Bell, seems to have been sent to the
5. The Mindy Project
This show deserves everything. It is witty and smart and hysterical. I laughed more while watching one episode of this show than I did during whole seasons of many other shows. Shown on Hulu, Mindy Lahiri, played by Mindy Kaling, is an OBGYN in New York City.
The series is following Mindy in her day-to-day life watching her balance work and her personal life along with her coworkers in their small medical practice in the city. The quirky characters make this show a feel good comedy series that appeals to all audiences.
6. Elementary
Stepping away from comedy, Elementary (Hulu) is a drama series. Sherlock Holmes, a police consultant in New York City and a recovering addict, welcomes in a sober companion to help him stay clean and sober. His sober companion Watson has an interesting background herself. You follow Sherlock Holmes and Watson through their mystery cases and how Sherlock solves them using his thorough process and how incredibly smart he is.
Watson begins to become very interested and helpful while tagging along on all of these cases and seems to be finding her own passion through all of this. With the excitement of the mysteries and the dry humor, you can't go wrong watching this show if you like drama with some laughs along the way.
7. Younger
Also found on Hulu, Younger is a comedy-drama series. Liza Miller (Sutton Foster) is a 40-year-old, recently divorced woman who wants to get back into the business of publishing. However, she has been out of work for 15 years after she stopped working to care for her daughter, Caitlin.
After some convincing from her long time friend Maggie, she changes her age on her applications, erases herself from the internet, and becomes 26-
With a very entertaining cast and the twists and
8. The Bold Type
Another series found on Hulu, fairly new and is shown on Freeform, this show follows the lives of three young women and their lives and careers working for a magazine in New York City. Dealing with their personal and professional lives and trying to find themselves in their 20's working in New York City at one of the most popular magazines can be quite an adventure, with comedy, drama, and romance, this show is good for all ages and deserves way more recognition than it has been receiving.
If you have not heard of these shows, give them a try! If you have heard of them then you should watch them again and spread the word about them. These shows deserve way more recognition than what I've been hearing.
Don't stick to the main 4 shows you watch and keep re-watching because you can't find another show to get into. Try a few of these and I promise you won't be disappointed.
