8 Tips for A Morning on The Plaza

I recently took a trip to New York, New York and I had the opportunity to check visiting the Today Show off my bucket list. Here are a few tips for any of you Plaza-goers out there:

1. Wake Up Early

Waking up early for the Today Show is a given. You will most likely need to get to the Plaza around 6:00 a.m. if you are interested in being close to the studio. Be sure to do your research about which day you are planning on attending the show. If there is a high profile figure/major event going on, you may need to get to the Plaza even earlier than 6:00 a.m.

2. Don't Stress

Don't stress out if you oversleep, or if you don't get as close to the studio/cast as you had hoped you would. This is a fun experience - enjoy it!

3. Make A Sign

The Today Show provides Plaza-goers with markers to create signs to hold on camera. Be sure to make a sign saying "Hi!" to Grandma at home.

4. Smile

Do you really want to frown on national television?

5. Dress Comfortably

I get it, you're on national television. However, it is important to consider the fact that you're going to be standing for a couple of hours straight; so, dress in clothes you feel comfortable in.

6. Be Assertive

The cast likes to make their rounds on the Plaza in the morning, so you better be on the look out for them.

7. Forget The Selfie

Al Roker or Hoda Kotb shook your hand. That's exciting, right? Don't get too caught up in the moment and forget your manners. If the cast member is in question is in a super selfie mood, and/or if he/she offers to take a pic with you, knock yourself out. But, if the cast member is clearly in a hurry ... don't be that excessive selfie person and force a photo opt on the celeb.

8. Don't Push People

Okay, so you overslept and didn't get that ideal spot on the Plaza. FEAR NOT. The cameras will find you when the show goes live, so don't push the kiddos in front of you who actually got to the there in a timely manner. Ya snooze, you lose.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
