8 Thoughts You WILL Think When You Cut Your Hair Short

Around a year ago, I chopped off over 10 inches of my hair. Well, technically I didn't cut it. I had someone else cut it. But, semantics. At the time, I was looking for a change and wanted something completely different from my long, stick-straight hair. Now I can't imagine life with hair longer than my shoulders. Here are some pictures for reference of what my hair was before I cut it, and what my hair is now.

This was my hair around 2015-2016. This wasn't even it at it's longest, but I will spare you from having to look at young me.

And this is from around six months ago. Pretty stark difference, right? Anyway, since I've cut my hair, I've had many thoughts about it. So today I present to you eight thoughts that girls with short hair have.

1. OMG, it's so short!

Yes, when you have had hair that is super long and suddenly you have cut off 8+ inches off, you reaction is something like this. Everyone who has ever cut off their long hair has this reaction. And I mean everyone.

2. I can use so much less conditioner!

Let's face it, everyone uses way to much conditioner. I used to pour a handful out for my long hair, but now I can use about a quarter-sized amount. It's a win for my conditioner, and for my wallet. Pro tip: this also applies to other styling products such as mouse, shampoo, etc.

3. This dries so much faster.

Once again, short hair for the win. You spend less time in front of a hair dryer, or less time air-drying your hair. Success!

4. I don't have to spend 4+ hours styling my hair!

Curling long hair SUCKS. It takes forever, and in my experience, it doesn't last long. With short hair, curling takes 20 minutes, max. Plus, you have fewer opportunities to burn yourself with the curling wand (which I do almost every day).

5. I can't put my hair in a ponytail anymore.

Gone are the days of long, luxurious ponytails. Girls with short hair are lucky if we can get our hair into a pony-nub (aka the world's shortest and saddest ponytail).

6. Should I grow out my hair?

Yep, every girl with short hair asks themselves this question. When we can no longer put our hair into ponytails, braids, or even curl it if it's that short, we question our decision. Should we have cut our hair off in the first place? Should we grow it out again? It is the biggest decision that we will make regarding our hair.

7. Should I cut my hair shorter?

Once you cut your hair short, you just want to keep cutting. I mean, you've already cut off most of it anyway, and just a couple more inches off would be cute, right? It's a never-ending saga.

8. I will never go back to long hair!

For girls with short hair, we know that long hair is just not for us. Short hair is way better, way easier to manage, and super cute. Short hair is the way for us, and it always will be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
