The first day of freshman year is scary for everyone. You're taking this big step into the unknown world of college. You have very few friends and you continue to get lost while trying to find your classes. These are a few thoughts every freshman has on their first day.

1. When is lunch?

After 13 years of being in school, you're used to being told when you go to lunch at what time. Now, you have to try and find the time to eat food while still making it to your 1 p.m. math class.

2. You're assigning homework on the first day? And you're lecturing?

Admit it, you thought that the first day was going to be a simple day with teacher introductions and a few ice breaker activities. Then all of a sudden your professor jumps immediately into lecturing and you didn't bring a notebook to take notes.

3. How did I end up back at the student union?

In your effort to locate your next class you seem to have walked in one big circle and can't seem to figure out where anything is. So, instead of looking like a lost puppy with a map, you decide to keep wandering in hopes that the building will jump out at you.

4. Why is this 30-something in my class?

There's always those late bloomers who decide to continue their education later in life and earn a degree, but you never expected to see so many and work beside them. Although I give these people immense credit for wanting to go back to school. You have to admit, it threw everyone off at first.

5. What are those strange letters on those shirts?

Unless you are a legacy and had all the knowledge about Greek life, you got confused at the Deltas and the Alphas walking around on people's shirts and jackets. You questioned if there was some cult on your campus you were unaware of until you finally learned what was going on.

6. Should I be writing this down?

While you sat in class during the first lecture of the semester, you had a million thoughts in your head (like where your next class was) then all of a sudden you look up and the professor looks like he's saying something important, but you missed it all. Then you begin to panic to find something to take notes with.

7. Is it too soon to call my mom?

After being away from home for a week you feel homesick occasionally and after the whirl wind of your first day you just want to tell your mom everything about it.

8. I'm free.

After the exciting first day filled with new adventures and memories, you realize that you're life has officially changed. You no longer have anything holding you down and you can take this amazing journey as an independent adult and you couldn't be any more excited.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
