Growing up in South Florida was truly an experience like no other. Despite telling myself how much I wanted to leave, I always find myself going back home. South Florida is a true gem — well, more like a diamond in the rough, but still a gem.

1. Being from South Florida is not the same as being from Florida

Whenever people ask where you're from, you always say you're from "South Florida" instead of just "Florida." They are NOT one in the same.

2. You have strong feelings about Boca.

Pretty much everyone here is from New York, so they're pretty rude. But then you remember that your family is from New York as well, and you're also rude...

3. You don't have much of a backyard.

Instead, you have a pool.

4. Your favorite store is Publix.

You will go to great lengths to argue why Publix is superior to every other grocery store. Currently Publix is tied with Wegman's for #1 grocery store in the country, but everyone knows Publix will always be better.

5. Your second favorite store is one of the many kosher markets we have here!

Fresh baked challah, matzo ball soup, and babka galore!

6. Flip-Flops for every occasion!

They're not just for the beach. You wear them to weddings too, or if you're like me, you even wear them to prom.

7. Palm Beach vs. Miami

While people don't argue which one is their favorite like they do with grocery stores, people secretly have a preference and believe one is superior to the other. Regardless, both cities have an incredible scene and culture!

8. No matter how far away you go, South Florida will always be home.

You can try to deny it all you want, but it definitely shaped you to be the person you are today.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
