Waking up early is hard to do, honestly. If you're an early riser, I applaud you! A big reason waking up early is hard is because it feels like a chore, but you can make your day a great one by trying out these tasks first thing in the morning. For those of us who are challenged in this area, here are some good excuses to start rising early.
1. Drink 8 oz. of water.
Drinking water is essential to feeling good and looking good. Doctors recommend eight 8 oz glasses a day, on average. Start your day off right by gulping down a glass, and you’ll feel more awake and energized.
2. Journal.
Whether you’re following daily writing/drawing prompts, keep a diary, or just like using a planner, using it in the morning is an extremely beneficial way to make your day more mindful and efficient. Morning pages are a really cool way to start writing every day, and you could morph your journaling style and intent as you get used to the habit.
3. Go for a walk.
If it’s during the fall and winter seasons, walking early in the morning may not feel safe because it’s dark out, but in the spring and summer — or If you feel comfortable walking in the dark — walking before you have to tackle your scheduled tasks is a really refreshing activity. Fresh air and light exercise before starting your day are great ways to energize yourself.
4. Do the dishes.
Have you ever decided that your dishes can wait until tomorrow, and then tomorrow — after class — comes and you just want to make food... but all the dishes you need are dirty? Solve this problem by just planning to get your dishes done at a set time every day — if it’s before 8 a.m. it’s better because you can rest easy and cook with ease after class/work.
5. Make your bed.
Your mom may not live with you anymore, but come on. Make your bed; your room will look cleaner and more inviting.
6. Moisturize (!!!).
An important beauty care step that everyone should include, especially if you live in a colder climate.
7. Listen to your favorite song.
Hype yourself up for a good day by starting it off with your favorite feel-good jam.
8. Write down your daily intention.
Living mindfully and intentionally can change your life, and every chance you get to set a goal or intention, you should. Waking up early and thinking about what you want out of the day can be mood-boosting, and writing it down and putting it into the universe will only manifest positivity.
