The University of Kentucky’s campus is filled with many different choices for lunch, activities and even places to study. Some students believe that the only place to cram for the test would be the William T. Young Library, but that is not the case. Campus offers a plethora of places for students to sit down and get their work finished. I have compiled a list of what I believe to be the eight, best places to study on campus.
8. William T. Young Library
During the school year, this library is open 24 hours a day! That is great for the student who needs to cram before their chemistry exam the next morning. With that being said though, this Library tends to be loud and for some people, it is used as social hour. Do not fret, the William T. Young Library offers a silent floor and study rooms where you can study in peace.
7. Education Library
The Education Library is located in the Taylor Education Building. This Library may be on the list due to my bias as an education major, but it also offers tons of perks. The Library is usually empty and comes stocked with craft supplies that are free! This is a great place to get your more creative class projects done, but also offers a room of near silence with help from the caring individuals that work there.
6. Starbucks at William T. Young Library
The Starbucks at the William T. Young Library is a great location for when you need a little bit of white noise to complete your work. Usually full of people, the aroma of smells and the soundtrack of people murmuring offer a great focus spot to finish that long paper that you are writing. The Starbucks is also a great place to get your coffee when you know that you are about to pull a terrible all-nighter and when the Starbucks closes, you can easily connect yourself to the William T. Young Library.
5. Your own room
For the few that do not get distracted, studying in your own room may be the best place for you. Some of us get sidetracked with the latest binge-worthy series on Netflix, but others of us can focus in the comfort of our own bed. This may not be the best place for an all-nighter though due to the fact that you could doze off, but it is probably complete with your favorite music and snacks!
4. Common Ground at North Campus
The Common Grounds is located in the front of Jewell Hall. The Commons Grounds is another coffee place that offers the white noise and the coffee that Starbucks has to give, but in addition it , s connected to The Study. The Study is a great tool to use when you are trying to complete your impossible math homework or need some last minute lesson regarding calculus. Make sure to check this study location out!
3. Study Room at the 90
When people think of the 90 they think of the many food options that the University of Kentucky has for their students. What people do not realize though is that there are study rooms that can be reserved in the 90 as well. These study rooms could be a great alternative to the crowded library that you may be searching for, it also is connected to a lot of great dining places so when you get hungry mid-study session.
2. Gatton School of Business
The Gatton School of Business is a great place to go to when you need some privacy and silence to study. Located off of South Limestone, this is an easy commute for the students that live off-campus. The Gatton School of Business offers empty study rooms with comfy chairs and white boards to finish that group projects or to study for your upcoming finance test. Not many people use it, therefore during the prime study hours you could walk in to your study haven.
1. Lucille Fine Arts Library
The Lucille Fine Arts Library is a great study place for any hour of the day. It is often close to silent and offers many resources and study spaces. The library also includes a plethora of computers for when yours decides to die right before a major assignment is due. In addition, this library offers guest speakers and musical performances in the room near the front. Some of these activities may double as extra credit for a class.
Overall, the University of Kentucky not only gives their students many different places to study, but also gives them the best places to study. No matter your preference there is a place for you –whether that be the bustling William T. Young Library or the quiet corner of the Lucille Fine Arts Library– Kentucky caters to their student population.
