8 Signs You're Probably An Editorial Intern

Of course my packing list includes my AP Stylebook.

I'm so lucky to get to be an intern for Odyssey this summer. We started last week and every day has been a whirlwind of new information, new people and new responsibilities, so it's been a blast getting to know everyone and realize that yep, we're all the same type of grammar freaks and nosy college kids.

1. Your packing list for the summer includes your AP Stylebook.

Though not required, we all tend to have an affinity for the book with all the answers and the ways to edit everything.

2. And you've heard yourself say, "If you don't know if you know AP style, then you probably don't."

It's just a fact. There's no way you know every rule about the oxford comma when it comes to AP style.

3. You live through Google drive.

Day 1 of the internship and I already had tons of shared Google docs and slideshows and color coded spreadsheets. There was even a time you looked up and said, "What did our parents do before Google?"

4. You take notes on absolutely everything and have a wide assortment of notebooks, planners, and colorful pens.

While most people consider their essentials to be their phone and keys, your essentials also include a notebook. For anything.

5. You're correcting each other's grammar.

While most people would just tend to not notice grammar errors or not call them out on them, editorial interns are quick to make sure their peers know they made a mistake. Hey, it's all for the greater good.

6. You're the nosiest one of your friends.

You don't even notice how nosy you are until you're with 14 other interns that are equally as nosy as you are. You all ask questions, do the creepy stalking, and poke your curiosity around until you find the answer.

7. You may not be as well versed on the latest trends, but you at least know what they are.

One of the best quotes I heard last week: "I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, but I feel like I do because of all the articles about it I edit." TRUE. Same goes with other current events, shows, pop culture references, anything.

8. You're all pretty freaking awesome.

I mean, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
