As you get older, it is important that you are always connecting with people and expressing your interests with them. The best way to do that is by getting involved on or off campus. Whether it be joining a sport, volunteering at a local organization, or participating in the arts, it will benefit you in the long run!
1. You meet a lot of people and potentially become friends with them.
Meeting new people is an exciting thing and you become close because of the activities you're doing. It is a great way to make life long friends and be involved in a great experience!
2. It is a great resume booster.
In college or high school, it is important for students to get involved so that it helps their resumes and impresses admission boards or job employers, i.e. joining a club, joining a sport, joining a nonprofit organization, participating in Greek life, etc.
3. It opens many doors for you.
Opportunities like internships or jobs will open up to you with the people you meet. It is important to get internships when you're a college student, or if you're a high school student, it helps get you a job.
4. It is better than staying at home and doing nothing.
Going shopping or staying at home watching Netflix can be done another day. After a while, it becomes repetitive and you're probably going to get bored. Volunteering or joining a club gives you something to do and you're typically doing things that will keep you busy for a while.
5. It gives you an open perspective.
Volunteering or joining a club opens your mind about the world and the people around you. You never know what people are going through and what their lives are like. It is important not to judge others and to have an open mind.
6. It is a great way to stay active with the community.
Organizations like Habitat for Humanity or the American Red Cross keep you up to date with the community. For the American Red Cross, the organization has disaster-relief fundraisers to fund for constant environmental crises around the world. Then with Habitat for Humanity, all around the United States people are building houses for those who need them the most.
7. It is a rewarding experience.
Not only is being involved fun, it is also a rewarding experience. Along with having an open perspective, you feel accomplished after a day of volunteering. Giving back to the community whether you're in a club organization or a nonprofit looks good on your part because you're able to take time away from your life to help those that need it.
8. You have a lot of fun!
It's a learning experience, and while doing it, you get a lot out of it!
