I've recently started scrapbooking over the last couple of weeks and I LOVE it! Here are some reasons why.
1. I get to be creative!
Who doesn't like to flex their creative muscles? I've only been doing this for about three weeks, but I can't wait for Sunday to come so I can work on my scrapbook. I get to match the colors in the photos to the paper that I want to use. Don't forget the embellishments! Adding them is half the fun.
2. It's more fun in a group.
My hairdresser, Barbara, has a gathering every Sunday. It's all women and we get together and scrap while eating yummy food and talking the girl talk. It not only gives a chance to mingle, but we give each other ideas about what to do with those pages that just aren't doing it for you.
3. Your photos get a home.
Why leave all those photos in an album when they could be living in the pages of a creative and artsy scrapbook? Putting them in a scrapbook also helps you remember what was happening in the photos.
4. It's a way to remember.
My dad passed away a couple of years ago and I dedicated a couple of pages in the scrapbook I'm currently working on to him. It helps me remember the happy times that we had before he died.
5. Scrapbooking is therapeutic.
When I've had a rough week, working on my scrapbook helps me relax. I get to put all the frustrations from the week into a creative workout instead of harboring all the frustrations.
6. Scrapbooking is about more than photos.
Some people think of scrapbooking as just making pages of photos. That's not entirely true. Barbara has taught me how to make a mini photo album out of two sheets of paper and some glue. It came out great! She even showed me how to make the cutest gift box from scrapbook paper.
7. It makes a great gift.
I'm working on my scrapbook for my mom. It has photos of my son since birth. It covers all his stages of life, and I know that my mom will cherish it forever. It's a unique handmade gift from me to her. To me, that says a lot more than a store-bought gift. She will be receiving the scrapbook as a Christmas present this year.
8. It's easier than you think.
If you have the patience to learn a new hobby you will enjoy learning to scrapbook. There is really nothing to it. My first scrapbook session I was there for about 3 hours, and I already had the hang of it. Not to mention, Barbara is a fantastic teacher. So if you're looking for a new hobby and have piles of photos sitting around and don't know what to with them, join a scrapbooking club! There is probably one close to you that you don't know exsists.
