8 Reasons Why I Love December

It’s finally December and all the joys of this month are in the air. From Christmas to an infinite amount of holiday movies to just resting and relaxing, December is one of my favorite months for so many reasons.

1. Snow

Despite the fact that I discuss my hatred for snow every year, I am so blessed to live in a state that has four seasons. Snow is cold and I can’t stand scraping my car in the morning and everyone hates shoveling, but it wouldn’t be a proper winter without snow on the ground and it especially wouldn’t feel like Christmas without snow. I love seeing a dust of snow on the ground or seeing snow cover the trees. I love standing outside at night and looking up at the sky when it’s snowing; it feels like a winter wonderland.

2. Winter Clothing

Sweaters, boots, hats, blanket scarves, etc. One of my favorite things about December is the ability to wear some of my favorite clothing. As much as I miss wearing shorts, sandals and dresses a few months out of the year, I love feeling nice and cozy with my winter clothing on.

3. Holiday Decorations

The second Thanksgiving ends, I bring my Christmas decorations out and prepare for my favorite holiday. One of my favorite childhood memories is decorating the front porch of my childhood home with my mom. I love putting the reindeer and Christmas tree figurines in the front yard, setting up our mini Christmas tree on our porch, and lighting the porch for the first time. Decorating the house (or your dorm room/apartment) sets the mood for Christmas and is an easy way to get us into the holiday spirit.

4. CHRISTMAS!!!

It’s only the most wonderful time of year and my FAVORITE holiday. Decorating the Christmas tree, eating Christmas dinner with the family, exchanging gifts with your loved ones, peeking under the tree to see if you can see what presents you got, delving in on Christmas cookies, attending Christmas Eve church service, donating to Toys for Tots or the Salvation Army, etc. are some of my favorite Christmas traditions and they truly make for a fabulous December.

5. Christmas Season Gives Us All A Reason To Spend Time With Our Family

There's nothing that brings a family together more than Christmas cheer. Whether your relatives live out of the state/country or you all just have different schedules, Christmas season is the one time we all have a reason to forgo our routines and make time for the people who mean so much to us. Whether your family is peaceful or crazy, it's the most important part about Christmas.

6. Holiday movies

I can never get enough of Freeform’s (ABC Family) 25 Days of Christmas movie marathon. From classic holiday movies like “Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman” to funny films like “Elf” and Santa,” 25 Days of Christmas truly gets me into the holiday spirit. I love December because you can get cozy on the couch with your cup of hot chocolate and blanket and watch holiday movies all day without a worry in the world.

7. Winter Break

After months of the stressful additives that come with being a full-time college student (i.e. tuition, school work, passing your classes, etc.), it’s nice to get a few weeks off and just take a break. By the time Christmas break rolls around, our brain is fried and this break offers us the perfect time to relax and just enjoy life.

8. CHRISTMAS!!!

Christmas always deserves a second shout out. It’s the most wonderful and magical time of year and it’s almost here!!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
