8 Reasons I Love Being a Butler Bulldog

Being a Butler Bulldog is an experience unlike anything you will get at another college campus. Being a Bulldog has shaped who I am as a person and has shaped the lives of every single person around me daily. Why should you consider being a Bulldog? This is what being a Bulldog means to me.

1. Shouting, "Go Dawgs!" literally anywhere

My tour guide told me that if I didn't know an answer in class and I was called on, I can just say, "Go Dawgs" and technically I'm not wrong! Jokes aside, you can literally go up to anyone and shout this to them and no matter what someone will shout it back! It's the school spirit that drives us al!

2. A-town Stir Fry and Nugget Night

Not all of the food is the best, but by far these two are the best and are pretty much sacred within the student body!

3. Positive Greek Environment

Rushing gets a pretty bad rep on other campuses, but at Butler, Greek life is one of the most positive environments for students to get to know other students from different majors! I've met so many amazing people through my house and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's worth it, I promise!

4. Academically Strong

Butler may be known for sports but Butler is also ranked second best school in Indiana! Butler has an amazing academic record!

5. Basketball Season

WHO DOESN'T LOVE BUTLER BASKETBALL?! BIG EAST, BABY!! GO DAWGS!!

6. Irvington

Starting Fall 2018, First Years will be living in the brand new Irvington Residence Hall and it looks incredible. First Years will have a cardio fitness gym, game rooms, and courtyards all in the comfort of their own residence hall!

7. The Community

The community Butler provides is insanely positive community that is unlike any campus you'll find. When it's warm and sunny outside, you will almost always see students hammocking on the Mall or playing Frisbee and you are always more than wleocme ot join. It's very relaxing knowing that if you're at the dining halls alone, you can alsways sit by someone and they'll greet you with a smile.

8. DOGS EVERYWHERE!!!!

Butler is a dog-friendly campus so many of the locals love to walk their dogs on campus! Not to mention, Butler has a live mascot, a bulldog named Trip, who you might see while in Starbucks or in Hinkle at any time so look out for him!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
