8 Reasons Why You Should Audition For An A Cappella Group This Fall
USC News

Summer is flying by and soon enough, it will be time to start packing up your things and heading to school. With classes, friends, and part-time jobs, I know college can be super busy. I also know that Pitch Perfect 2 might have actually turned you away from a cappella music.... (les-be-honest, that movie was not great, y'all.) But, I'm here to tell you why joining an a cappella group might just be the be the best decision you ever make.

8. You get to sing!

I mean, duh. It’s a singing group. But, for all you dorks super cool kids who did choir in high school, this is a great opportunity to sing in a group again, without the atrocious floor-length dresses.

7. Your group will most likely have a ridiculous punny name

Like the “Shirley Tempos” or the “Chord On Blues.” I don’t know whose job it is to come up with these names, but I want it.

6. It’s good for you!

We all know how stressful school can be, which is why it is so important to schedule in breaks and take care of your body. Singing in a group has been proven to relieve stress and lower anxiety! So, instead of sitting in bed and binge-watching New Girl (Max Greenfield, amiright??), go to rehearsal and sing your troubles away with some “zhum dum zhum dum daaaaaaa”s

5. You’ll be on a CD

Now, this depends on what group you’re in and what the budget is like, but most groups get the opportunity to record a CD at some point. Trust me, you will never feel more ~aLiVe~ than when you have those giant headphones on, pretending like you're Adele recording her next hit.

4. You may also be in a music video!

Again, this depends on the group. But, if you’re lucky, you will get to actually film a music video (instead of singing in the mirror, pretending like you’re in one…..)

And if you’re REALLY lucky, you might record a hit music video like this group from JMU….

(SLAY LADIES)

3. You will make more new friends than you can count.

You’re not just joining a group, you’re becoming a member of an entire community. A cappella is like one big giant co-ed sorority/fraternity (but WITH SINGING)

2. You get to perform concerts/gigs in really cool places

Aside from the gigs you get to do on campus, a lot of groups actually go on tour. I don’t know about you, but traveling around to different towns and singing with my best friends sounds like #heaven to me.

1. You have best friends for life.

When you sing with a group of people for four years, they become your family. You’ve seen each other at your worst and your best. You form a bond that will last for years and years to come, which means you’ll probably schedule reunion gigs like every year just so you can see your family again.

SO, when a cappella auditions come around this Fall, pick a killer song and get ready for the best time of your life.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
