Eight Problems Of Living In A Southern Small Town Your Whole Life

Leaving your childhood friends for college can be difficult, but what did you really miss?

Even though you've been away at college coming back to your small town has never let you down.

However, getting used to the happenings of your town again isn't that hard of an adjustment since you've been here your whole life.

1. You have your forever friends that have seen you through the “ugly stages.”

Your main set of friends more than likely went to the same elementary, middle, and high school as you. As everyone had a rough time in those middle school years with looks, these friends aren’t afraid to tell you how it is because they’ve seen you through your best, and worst, and will never let it go.

2. You see at least one person every time you go into any store.

No matter if it’s going to the grocery store or just to the gas station, it never fails. You always see someone you know. Whether you want to see them or not, you find yourself ducking through aisles to avoid conversations when looking your worst.

3. You know everyone’s dirty little secret.

Just like Gossip Girl, secrets seem to buzz around the town even if only one person was meant to know. With everyone so close, it can take a matter of a week for the latest news to hit the neighborhood block.

4. There are always the group of people who never leave.

The people who hated on the town the most, are the people who coincidentally stuck around the longest. They can be seen hanging out around with others who have also never left and will always fill your social media feed!

5. Your high school had a “truck row.”

The good ole’ country boys never failed to roll up to school parking in the area they claimed as there own. The large diesel trucks all lined up next to each other each morning, and all left together puffing smoke throughout the parking lot.

6. There was the one “hot spot” everyone went to.

With the lack of city things to do, it was a must to claim a certain territory that everyone could hang out around. For my town, it was the only fast food joint that had outdoor seating because it became a staple for after warm nights at high school football games.

7. High school football still consumes everyone on Friday nights.

Your town’s team could be having a season that’s going down the drain and everyone would still show up with their seat cushions filling the stands. Every age group young and old would go to watch the local superstars take on their rivals and hopefully win that conference championship that could become bragged about for years.

8. You always notice people driving on the same roads as you.

Once everyone gets back into town from college, the same cars that were parked in the rows of your high school magically appear on the road again. With only a few amount of roads that can be taken, it never fails to roll up next to or drive right by previous enemies and friends.

However, throughout this I wouldn’t take back living in a small town at all. It never failed to teach me how to appreciate the little things in life!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
