8 Movies to Get You In the Holiday Spirit

Now that Thanksgiving is over, Christmas is just around the corner! If you're anything like me, you've been celebrating since Halloween ended, but for those lacking the holiday spirit, what a better way to gain it than with festive holiday movies? Below are 8 holiday movies that are sure to get you into the Christmas spirit!

1. The Year Without A Santa Claus

This one is my personal favorite. My mom and I watch it every year. It's filled with everything that you could want in a Christmas movie: a cheesy plot line about Christmas spirit and belief, claymation, Mrs. Claus and Mother Nature kicking ass, and catchy songs. How much better could it get?

2. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Have you ever wondered how Santa Claus came to be? This movie is very similar to The Year Without A Santa Claus, except it tells the story of how Christmas originated. It's a great movie to make you feel thankful for the holidays after seeing how unhappy people can be without a bit of holiday cheer.

3. Elf

Is it really Christmas if you don't watch Elf at least 12 times? Of course not.

4. The Santa Clause, 1 and 2

While we ignore the third movie’s existence, the first two truly embody how important it is to believe in something--whether it be magic, love, or anything else worthy of your belief--and to spread love and good spirit.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you’re like me, then you need a little spooky to go with your holiday spirit. The Nightmare Before Christmas is the best of both worlds, celebrating my two favorite holidays in one movie. Not to mention, it’s a musical, so you can belt along to it...if you can get past the creepy Oogie Boogie Man that is.

6. Frosty the Snowman

An oldie, but a goodie! I remember watching this movie all the time as a kid with my mom and sister and, I’m not going to lie, I still cry whenever Frosty starts to melt. It’s the perfect movie to cuddle up to with your significant other, your friends, your pets, or your family and watch together.

7. Scrooge

This movie is a reminder to not live your life greedily, be use in the end, it will cost you a lot. While you may be inherently successful, what value does that have with no one to share it with? The transformation of Scrooge from the beginning of this movie to the end is one of the most inspiring things, too, and the film teaches you to value what’s important in life and to treat those you love with kindness.

8. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Lastly, the absolute best movie to watch during the holidays. This is the movie that I think actually made me love Christmas as much as I do now. It’s heartwarming, it’s adorable, and it’s probably the easiest watch of all the other movies on this list. I personally love the cartoon version so much more than the live action (sorry, Jim Carrey) because it’s short, sweet, and simple. Plus, who doesn’t love little Cindy Lou Who’s cute voice when she wakes up in the middle of the night and asks the Grinch what he’s doing with her Christmas tree?

Christmas is one of the best times of year, filled with happiness and joy, and these movies definitely help to put you into the spirit. Enjoy these with friends and family alike, and remember to show your appreciation for one another before and even after the holidays end. No matter what you celebrate, what movies you watch to gain your holiday spirit, or who you are with, be sure to celebrate with happiness and spread love to those that need it this season.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
