If you haven't heard of the Mandela Effect, where have you been? Because it's all over the internet. In case you don't know what it is, it is when someone has a clear memory of something that never happened in reality. And I don't mean just one person, but thousands, even millions of people having this memory that apparently never happened. Some people think it's just a mix up of parallel universes, and that we are sliding in and out of these parallel universes without realizing it. Some people think it's caused by someone that invented a time machine in the future, and when they went back in time it subtly changed things and now some people remember the way it was before it was changed, and some people only remember it the way it is in reality. The following are just a few of the ones that trip me out the most, but there are many more all over the internet. To start off with, lets talk about the person it's named after: Nelson Mandela.
1. Nelson Mandela
It all started with many people, who were complete strangers, remembering that Nelson Mandela died in a South African Prison when he was serving time. Is that how you remember learning about it? Well, you're wrong. Nelson Mandela actually died from a respiratory tract infection in 2013.
2. Chic-Fil-A or Chick-Fil-A?
This one hits home to me. As a child, I have a vivid memory of tracing one of the napkins with a pen that had the logo "Chic-Fil-A" because I thought to myself how weird it was that they spelled it "Chic" instead of "Chick." This example alone has me convinced of this conspiracy theory.
3. The Berenstain Bears
You read that correctly. It is indeed spelled "Berenstain," not "Berenstein." Don't worry, you're not crazy, I remember it as "Berenstein" as well.
4. Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs
This example is one that will make you question your entire childhood. Even in today's society we use the slogan, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall." Well, that's wrong. The actual line is "Magic mirror on the wall." No, seriously. Go look up the scene on YouTube right now. So why does everyone still say "Mirror, mirror, on the wall" if that was never right?
5. Star Wars
This one goes right along with Snow White. In "Star Wars: Episode V - Empire Strikes Back," everyone remembers there being a line in the movie that says "Luke, I am your father." There are shirts that have that on there, action figures that speak those words, and millions, possibly billions of people remembering that line. Well, that line never happened. The actual movie says "No, I am your father." Convinced yet?
6. The Monopoly Man
Many people, including myself, specifically remember the monopoly man having a monocle on his eye. Well, he has never had one. Seriously. Google it.
7. Looney Tunes
Not "Looney Toons" as many of us remember it. "Toons" being a play on the word "cartoon" which makes more sense anyway. Everything about this looks and feels wrong.
8. Betty White
No, she's actually not dead. Some people remember hearing about her death years ago, but in fact, she's still alive and rockin' it at the age of 94.
