Let’s face it — food from the dining halls don’t always taste good. All of us have days when we stroll through the buffet section and end up eating cereal or PBJ sandwiches, wishing we had checked the college menu before we used our meal swipe.
Here are some quick and easy hacks to use to survive dining hall food:
1. Make your own DIY dip
Take the regular hummus from the salad bar, and add Sriracha to it, adjusting to your taste. Add a little bit of lemon for added flavor. Eat it with pita bread, celery or broccoli florets. Alternative: Try adding red pepper flakes to Marinara sauce. It is true magic!
2. Make bruschettas
Make use of the spice rack in the dining halls: use basil, red pepper flakes and olive oil, and get some tomatoes and red peppers from the salad bar.
3. Steamed Veggies

This is for you if you don’t like raw veggies. Take everything you want from the salad bar, add some Tamari sauce, olive oil, salt and pepper. Cover the top in cling-film and heat it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Your veggies will get steamed beautifully, ready for you to eat.
4. Make your to-go apple pie
Put sugar and cinnamon on your diced apples and put it in a to-go cup. Cook it for 2 to 3 minutes and top it with some granola. Your pie is ready to go!
5. Thai Peanut Sauce

Get your everyday peanut butter and add some soy sauce for saltiness and some Sriracha for a little bit of kick. It tastes best with grilled chicken, or even with celery sticks.
6. Make Yummy FLOATS!

Use a few scoops of some ice-cream and mix it with your favorite soda. Well-tested combinations are fanta+vanilla and coke+chocolate, but you can experiment. Extra tip: crush in some cookies for added flavor.
7. Breakfast Burrito

Scrambled eggs for breakfast everyday does get boring. Make your own breakfast burrito by adding some cheese and beans from the salad bar. Some veggies would be a great addition if you’re feeling particularly healthy.
BONUS: Add some marinara sauce, it changes the game.
8. Make Your Own Parfait!

Make your mornings special by making a parfait for breakfast. Layer your favorite flavored yogurt with canned strawberries, or pear slices and top it with some granola.
