Summer 2016 has been a crazy ride. So much has happened in such a little amount of time.Between the Olympics, political conventions, and everything in between, this summer has taught us all a lot. Here are eight of the most important things we have learned.

1. We all care more about sports than we thought.

The Olympics were super exciting! Almost everyone payed close attention to the events and pretended that they knew what was going on. We all became super competitive, cheering our country on. The majority of people even cared immensely about the results of the events. I guess we all like sports a little more than some people like to believe they do.

2. Video games can be dangerous.

Pokémon Go is the game that many fans of the franchise have been waiting for since the 90s. For the most part, the game has been incredibly positive, bringing people together in a time when we all feel divided. Unfortunately, people have gotten hurt playing this game from not paying attention. People have even been mugged while playing. I guess video games really can lead to violence.

3. Donald Trump can make an entrance.

Regardless of if you agree with his policies or if you think he would be a good president or not, Donald Trump made one of the greatest, most over the top entrances into a political convention ever. I don’t think anyone can argue, the man definitely knows how to put on a show.

4. Pokémon are real!

Actually everyone already knew this. Next!

5. Bill Clinton loves balloons.

Just look at his face at the end of the Democratic National Convention. He is so happy because of all the balloons that just fell on the stage. It seems like he doesn’t even care that his wife just became a nominee for President of the United States. He just wants to play with the balloons.

6. The Olympics are really fun…for certain athletes.

If your name isn’t Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt, why are you even trying? Certain athletes just dominated their respective events in the Olympics this year. In reality, it must be awesome enough just being there. It must be an incredible honor to compete for your country. However, when you see someone like Phelps or Bolt in your event, you already know that the gold medal is probably a lost dream.

7. The weather should be balanced

The weather this summer, at least here in the Northeast, has been really hot. In fact, it has been so hot and dry that we were in a borderline drought.Fortunately, we finally got some rain. Unfortunately, it hasn’t stopped raining since. Obviously we cannot control the weather. It would just be nice if it was a little more balanced than it was this summer.

8. According to the Washington Post, there is no “song of the summer.”

What!? There is no song of the summer? No wonder we needed Pokémon Go and the Olympics to get us through this summer. Regardless, I hope everyone had an awesome summer!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
