It is that time of year again. All of the incoming college freshmen are preparing to move into their tiny dorm rooms. You know you need the essentials, like a hamper and shower shoes, but there are a few things you may not think you need but will definitely appreciate later on.
1. Bedside Caddy
A bedside caddy may seem unnecessary, but trust me you will be wishing you had it. This is especially true if you have a loft bed. That way, there is no fear of having your phone or laptop accidentally knocked off.
2. Abundance of paper products
While having actual glassware looks nicer, washing dishes in the same sink you brush your teeth in gets old. Paper plates and other disposable plasticware will be a lifesaver.
3. Fridge caddy
It is important to save as much space as possible in a tiny dorm. Being able to save space and have your kitchenware right next to your fridge is smart and convenient.
4. Hanging lights
Especially with a loft bed, you will want some extra light for those late night cram sessions in your bed or while binge-watching Netflix.
5. Tide to go
Since you most likely will have to pay to do your laundry, having a mini stain remover could allow you to put off laundry a bit longer if you accidentally spill your cup of ramen.
6. Cold and flu medicine
With hundreds of other students living in one building, there will definitely be a few illnesses going around. Have all the necessary medication, including preventative ones like Zicam, bought beforehand so you don't have to worry about getting it while sick.
7. Mini cutting board and knife
Even if you think you won't be cooking at all in your dorm, a small cutting board and knife will come in handy when you need it.
8. Extra set of bed sheets
After I had a bad case of food poisoning freshman year, I was thankful for that extra set of sheets. Trust me, it is worth the extra investment to have extra sheets on hand.
