Over the years, Disney Channel has become well-known for its original movies, or DCOMS, as they call them. From witches to smart houses, DCOMS have it all. Here's a look back on a few of Disney's most iconic original movies.

1. "High School Musical" (2006)

Today, "High School Musical" is one of Disney Channel's most well-known original movies. While this movies series was not the first of its kind, it undoubtedly led the way for all future movie musicals to follow -which is why it remains a hit among fans today.

2. "Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior" (2006)

"Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior" stars Brenda Song. This movie follows Wendy Wu, a popular teenage girl, when she finds out she is a reincarnated Yin Warrior whose destiny is to defeat Yan Lo.

3. "Camp Rock" (2008)

Following the success of "High School Musical," Disney Channel produced "Camp Rock." Much like "High School Musical," this film was also a movie musical. It quickly became a fan favorite and even resulted in a sequel "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam."

4. "The Thirteenth Year" (1999)

Right before his 13th birthday, Cody Griffin discovers that he is adopted and that his biological mother is a mermaid, thus making him a merman. While Cody struggled to grasp this, I think we can all agree that we are still waiting to find out if we're secretly mermaids.

5. "Stuck In The Suburbs" (2004)

"Stuck In The Suburbs" is a movie that every fangirl wishes would happen to her. This movie follows the adventure of two friends after they accidentally end up with a pop star's phone.

6. "Halloweentown" (1998)

"Halloweentown" is a fall movie classic. It follows the adventures of three siblings when they return home to Halloweentown with their grandmother. Due to the success of the movie, Disney went on to produce three other movies in this series. Now, you can even visit the real town of Halloweentown in the fall when a small town in Oregon transforms into the beloved Halloweentown.

7. "Twitches" (2005)

"Twitches" is another classic fall film. It follows two identical twins who were separated at birth when they reunite on their 21st birthday. For a spooky twist, they discover that they are witches and there is unknown darkness coming after them.

8. "Descendants" (2015)

"Descendants" is one of Disney Channel's most recent original movies. This series follows children the children of four popular Disney villains as they move to Auradon to attend school with the children of Disney heroes. "Descendants" features a strong cast, catchy songs, and a modern fairytale storyline.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
