Dogs must have some magical power where they make people love them, almost like the movie "Love Potion No. 9." It has to be in their food or something because I can’t be the only one who is obsessed. Here are seven ways to know you also are an avid dog lover like me.
1. You fall for the puppy eyes.
No matter how hard you try, you can’t say no to them. With one look, you’re instantly under their spell. It’s scary how easily this can happen. Leaving them is the hardest thing to do. Tip: Do not make eye contact while walking away. If you do, you will never leave them. Just turn around and run. It hurts less.
2. You spoil them.
They have more toys than you ever did. I mean really? Is this necessary? Yes, yes it is. They even say “don’t give your dog people food” but its impossible not to. Every trip to the pet store results in a cart full of toys and treats that your dog may or may not need.
3. You don't need friends.
A dog is a man’s (and girl’s) best friend. This is the truest statement of all time. I hang out with my dog more than I do with actual people and I don’t even feel bad about it. Go for walks with them, vent to them, or cuddle and watch Netflix with them. The options are endless.
4. You have to pet them all.
No matter where you are, if there is a dog, you have to touch it. Even if you don’t know the owner, the adorable fluff ball is more important. Walking into a pet store is like walking right into a trap. You want to pet them all and on top of that, you then want to buy them all.
5. You have no "type."
Just give me a dog. Any dog will do. I just want to play and cuddle. Only liking one specific breed of dog is like discriminating. They all are just so perfect. Each breed has its own quality that makes loving them so easy.
6. Those ASPCA commercials hit you hard.
Once the song starts, you know what’s coming next. You immediately have to change the channel because you know you’ll start crying. You either change the channel, or immediately grab a piece of paper to write down the phone number to donate money.
7. They'll destroy everything you own, but you'll still love them.
If you’ve ever owned a puppy, you know what I am talking about. The teething stage is dreadful. Puppies don’t know any better so they will tear apart one of your most valuable items, something important, or something very, very expensive. Even though they destroy whatever is in their path, they will give you that look and you instantly love them to pieces again.
Dogs come in many breeds and sizes but loving them all the same is so important. A human is a dog’s best friend and a dog is a human’s best friend. There is no shame in living alone with 12 dogs for the rest of your life, right? Right.
