Stress is a huge part of college. We have exams, essays, and loads of other assignments that all seem to fall on the same week. This time of year can become pretty stressful, so here are seven ways to help save yourself from stress.

1. Organize

This is probably my favorite and most practiced way to relieve stress. I don't know about everyone else, but I always find myself organizing and cleaning my room at 2 A.M. on a Tuesday night to try to relieve stress. Things such as organizing your closet or desk can help you feel accomplished while at the same time relieving some of the pent-up stress.

2. Read a book

College can be hard and very time-consuming, so pick up a book that you have been wanting to read. I have found that reading helps me get my mind off of my schoolwork, and is a much better alternative to logging onto social media.

3. Watch a movie

Over the past couple of weeks with all of my midterms, I have been finding that Netflix is my safe haven. I have watched numerous Disney movies (I highly recommend Moana), and I have found that it helps me to escape from reality just long enough to get my mind back on track. So, block out two hours of your day to relax and enjoy a movie.

4. Take a nap

Napping is my go-to way to de-stress on a daily basis. It gives my mind enough time to rest and get ready for the enormous amount of work that I have to do. Taking a one or two hour nap is a fantastic way to rejuvenate yourself in stressful times.

5. Watch videos of cute puppies

If you are in the middle of a long paper or have been studying for countless hours in the library, watching videos of dogs is always a good solution. Who doesn't love seeing baby dachshunds and corgis?

6. Listen to music

Music is like medicine for the soul, so use it to help calm you down in stressful times. Get up, leave your room, go outside, and just listen to music.

7. Plan your week

I love using my planner, but a lot of the time I forget to write down important dates. So, get out your planner and write down all of your assignments for the next three weeks. This will help you to have a visual of the tasks you need to complete, and it will help you to conquer stress in the weeks to come.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
