Seven Ways To Look Cute In The Cold Weather

As soon as cold weather hits and sidewalks and driveways become covered in snow, the last thing on anyone’s mind is looking fashionable when they go outside. Let’s face it, we all dread piling on layers after layers, and no one wants to look like a puffy marshmallow in the dead of winter. Well, whether you are a fashion guru or not, there are lots of easy fashion tips and tricks to avoid this dreaded I-swear-I'm-not-500-poundss excessively layered look. Here are seven ways to look cute in the cold weather, while still keeping you warm!

1. Chunky Turtleneck Sweaters

When I think of turtlenecks, it takes me back to my toddler days, when my mom forced me to wear a turtleneck under just about everything. Because of this traumatic fashion experience, I have steered clear of turtlenecks ever since… well, until now. My most recent purchase is a chunky turtleneck sweater. I surprised myself when I pulled it off the rack and lugged it into the dressing room, along with several other things to try on (oops). I have fallen in love with this new neck-warming garment, and I recommend you try it out for yourself. A chunky turtleneck sweater is a perfect way to stay warm while also looking cute, with the added bonus of being able to hide those extra holiday pounds we all know we are going to pack on. I love pairing my new turtleneck sweater with my leather jacket for a bold, yet effortlessly put-together look.

2. A Statement Coat

It is time to get rid of that grungy old fleece North Face jacket. Yes, the one you think keeps you warm but actually serves no purpose in the winter. Instead, replace it with a statement coat. A statement coat is the easiest way to wear one of your favorite patterns, while also staying warm and cozy (and fashionable) throughout the winter. Throw this eye-catching topper over your favorite go-to outfit—like jeans and a sweater—and you have an effortless winter outfit. Who needs an old North Face when you can style up your outfit with a new stylish winter coat?

3. A Sweater Dress

Similarly to the chunky turtleneck sweater, a sweater dress is a great staple piece to add to your winter wardrobe. Pairing this with leggings or tights and a faux vest will show off your inner fashionista. A sweater dress is a quick and easy way to stay warm this winter, but it is also such a versatile piece that you can incorporate into your wardrobe. Style it up or dress it down; a sweater dress can be worn as a casual outfit with winter boots or stylized with jewelry and booties with chunky socks. This is definitely a stylish way to stay warm this winter.

4. Wool Socks

Nothing is worse in the winter than the numb feeling you get when you cannot feel your toes. Well, with a pair of wool socks, you can avoid that unwanted tingly, numbing feeling. Wool socks are quintessential to anyone’s wardrobe in the wintertime. Throw on a pair of these socks with your favorite pair of boots for an everyday casual look or with a pair of booties and jeans for a more put-together vibe. I love wearing a pair of chunky wool socks with skinny jeans and my favorite booties; the socks keep me warm, but are also great for a more dressy look on those nights out that entail walking on snowy sidewalks.

5. Blanket Scarf

Infinity scarves are great and all, but how about a blanket scarf? This new trend this season has been one of the greatest of all time; celebs have been spotted wearing blanket scarves for a sense of added warmth and fabulous style, of course. These blanket scarves are the perfect way to style up and accessorize a plain and simple outfit. I prefer wearing neutral colors and adding a patterned or colored blanket scarf to spruce up my winter outfits. Since these scarves are often oversize, you can double it as a scarf or a wrap.

6. Knee-High Boots

Knee-high or over-the-knee boots will be your staple accessory and go-to shoe this winter. These boots are a great way to edge up a simple outfit of a tee and skinny jeans, or help streamline a suede skirt for a night out. These boots can be paired with over-the-knee socks for a more textured look and added warmth. Knee-high boots are the perfect compliment to any outfit this winter; I cannot say it enough.

7. Beanies

Of course, no winter outfit would be complete without a beanie. Beanies will forever be a classic staple piece to any winter wardrobe. This is a great way to hide day four of your unwashed hair or your laziness to even brush your hair that morning. Either way, beanies are a simple accessory that always pairs well with any outfit in the winter.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
