You've had all semester. You knew it was coming and you told yourself this time would be different. You've grown up and you're ready to handle your responsibilities like an adult but then you slide right back into that familiar rut of panicked procrastination but it's okay because you haven't learned nothing over the years. You may always procrastinate, but if college has taught you anything it's how to make yourself feel okay about it. Here are 7 ways you've learned how to trick your mind into procrastinating when you know you shouldn't.
1. "My final is tomorrow at 8 am and I should probably study because I know nothing. But if I do study until 3 am I'm going to be so tired that it won't have mattered. It would probably me way more beneficial to just get a good night sleep so my brain can function better and then trust that my refreshed brain will make good educated guesses. Also I'm pretty sure sleep helps improve memory."
2. "I have three finals on Wednesday but there's no way I can study enough to pass all of them. I know, I'll just study really hard for two so I know I'll get a good grade on those and then not even show up for the third one. I can always use academic forgiveness right? I personally think it'd be smarter to ace two and fail one than get C's or D's on all three."
3. "If I start studying today, I'll just forget everything by the time my final rolls around. It'd probably be smarter to study the night before so everything is fresh in my brain. I'll just play video games until then to keep my brain active in the meantime. Video games HAVE been shown increase problem solving and creativity after all."
4. "I can't right a good essay if I start a week in advance because there would be no sense of urgency. Rough drafts are overrated."
5. I should really take a coffee break and socialize. It's important to have balance in life anyway. If I just study for 6 straight hours I'll run myself into the ground and won't remember anything. I need to work my other side of the brain by socializing and give my studying brain a break. I think that would be really good for me. Also coffee sounds great."
6. "It's soooo nice outside. Maybe if I just go get some sun and fresh air to clear my head..."
7. "Man I'm hungry."
You've got one week so keep procrastinating your way to freedom. It'll be over eventually.
