As we all try to reinvent ourselves for 2018, why not start the new year right with the investments of a few houseplants.

I'm not talking about sticking a few plastic succulents on a bookshelf and calling it a day, but a real living thing that is proven to boost your mood, improve your concentration, filter toxins out of the air, and help you get a better night sleep. Here are few options sure to up your houseplant game in 2018:

1. Cacti

Cacti are a really simple way to break out into the houseplant scene since they are very low maintenance, relatively easy to find, and there are many different varieties to choose from. Not to mention that they are a guaranteed conversation starter.

2. Air Plants

Air Plants get their name due to the fact that they do not require any soil and get the water that they need from the air. They are really easy to take care of and will add character to any room. Just place them in a sunny window and you are good to go!

3. Marimo

Marimos are a very loose definition of a plant but that does not mean that they aren’t cool. Native to Japan, these adorable little moss balls live their lives in water, meaning that they are impossible to overwater. Keep one on your desk as a cute little study buddy or get a few and create your own underwater terrarium. The possibilities are endless!

4. Bamboo

Bamboo plants are a great option because they live for a really long time, do not need a lot of light, and they are really easy to take care of. They are relatively inexpensive and come in many different shapes and sizes. They are a really easy way to add a little more green to your room.

5. Money Tree

One of the more traditional houseplants, money trees are an easy way to add a little more greenery to your life. Relatively easy to care about, the money trees are known to improve your sleep and improve your concentration due to the amount of oxygen that they release into the air.

6. Aloe Vera

Easy to take care of as they are practical, the aloe plant will make your life a little brighter. Aloe plants also help with sunburn relief, first aid, and they can help to purify the air in your room.

7. Snake Plants

Snake Plants are great because they are known to filter toxins out of the are, not to mention that they look really cool. They are also proven to improve sleep and do not need a lot of light. They are simple to take care of and will brighten up any room.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
