7 Underrated News Stories This Week That Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity
Today Show

Our world seems to be falling apart around us. News of terrorism, crime, sexual assault, homelessness, poverty, inequality, natural disasters, etc. continuously weigh on our minds. Wherever we look, we see bad news. I don't know about you, but I know that for me all of this can be kinda depressing. However, I also have faith that there is still good in this world and that humanity is not lost. I did some googling and found plenty of stories that are sure to turn both that frown upside down and your worries into hope.

1. From Huffington Post, "Pets And People Are Joyously Reuniting After California Wildfires."

You surely saw all of the sad stories of people's lives being destroyed by the fires in California. However, now that they are coming to an end, people are being reunited with their furry friends! Truly a heartwarming, happy ending.

2. From MSN, "4-year-old girl donates piggy bank money to police officer with cancer"

Illness and malice incidents involving police are always plastered upon headlines. This is truly a breath of fresh air, and it shows true kindness and compassion, something that the world needs more of today.

3. From The Today Show, "130K meals and counting: How chef José Andrés is feeding hurricane victims in Puerto Rico"

After the horrifying natural disaster in Puerto Rico, it is truly nice to see people coming together to support one another in a time of need. People helping people--acts like this should be highlighted more often.

4. From NBC News, "Two Texas Locals are Making Halloween a Little Less Frightening for Harvey Victims"

Something so simple, but makes a big impact on those in need. These women put a smile on many kids faces, and their story will put a smile on your face too.

5. From Good Morning America, "Ohio neighborhood celebrates woman's last chemo treatment with surprise parade"

"Community" in America is not dead. This goes to show what people can do if they band together with a common, positive goal in mind.

6. From ABC News, "Oklahoma man makes it his mission to end homelessness in his community"

Homelessness is a crucial problem in the United States today. But, how can I (being just one person) even begin to make a difference? Well, this just goes to show that one act of kindness can go a long, long way. There are so many non-profits and other organizations working to make this world a better place, and through them is how we can change the world. GMA does a segment called "We are GMA" that shows people just like the man in this article, Larry Bross. Don't give up faith yet, people.

7. From CNN, "Soldier dad's tearful school surprise for wife"

The coming-home videos of soldiers ALWAYS bring me to tears. Loved ones being reunited is a strong, and powerful thing. I would like to take a moment to thank all of our brave men and women who are fighting for our freedom each and every day. This is the news that will strengthen our nation.

There are SO many more stories like these out there. Stories of incredible people, companies, organizations, and efforts of those who care. The negativity has officially been ruling our headlines for years, and I think it has taken a toll on our society. Hopefully, more people will get inspired by these heroes and happy stories, and go do something good. Spread the love, ladies and gentlemen. Spread the love.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
