Yesterday, Dan Schneider, creator of Zoey 101, finally answered one of Zoey 101’s biggest questions—what did Zoey say about Chase in the PCA time capsule?
In case you don’t remember the episode or were too young to have seen it air live, here’s a recap of the episode: the students had to put something that represented who they were into the time capsule and 20 years later the school would dig it back up. Zoey Brooks (Jamie Lynn Spears) made a DVD where she talked about the people dear to her heart. In a crazy, curious frenzy, Chase had Michael help him dig up the capsule to find out what Zoey had said about him…but ultimately he did not feel right about watching it behind her back, so he returned it to the capsule. Zoey later joked she decided making him wait 20 years was too mean so she’ll tell him what she said…in 10 years.

And 10 years later, to the date, Teen Nick released a 5 minute short, by Dan Schneider, featuring Sean Flynn and Christopher Massey reprising their roles as Chase Matthews and Michael Barret.
The short starts out with Chase (Sean Flynn) giving his girlfriend a ring—obviously about to propose, but before he can get the words out Michael (Christopher Massey) storms in exclaiming it has been 10 years since the time capsule was buried and it is time to find out what Zoey said 10 years earlier.
Unfortunately, no one in the restaurant had a DVD player or laptop so we did not get to see Zoey herself say what she thought about Chase, but fortunately for us, Michael had written it down. He reads Zoey’s speech to Chase, where she admits “Chase is really special to me…and who knows? Maybe he’s even my soul mate?”

The short ends with Chase admitting he’s still in love with her, and he runs out to find Zoey, but not before taking back the ring he was about to propose with.
I, personally, was unaware this short was going to happen. So when I was watching Teen Nick at my friend’s house it completely caught us off guard. But the short, being only a 5-minute video, left me with a couple questions…
1. Why didn’t Michael bring a laptop or portable DVD player?
Seriously, if he watched it already, why didn’t he just bring a device from which Chase could watch the DVD? Okay, I get he was way excited to share Zoey’s thoughts with Chase, but if he already watched it—why not run to Chase prepared?
2. Who exactly is Alyssa?
I have so many questions about her. Where is she from? How did she and Chase meet? What makes her so special Chase was ready to propose to her?
3. Why was Chase so quick to ditch her?
While I totally understand Zoey is his soulmate, doesn’t it seem a little out of character for Chase to totally peace out on the girl when he was about to propose to her? I’m not saying his leaving to find Zoey wasn’t accurate; I’m just not too sure I believe he would leave a girl hanging like that. Chase is way more considerate. Then again, it was 5 minutes, so perhaps not a lot of time to process politeness?
4. What happened to Zoey and Chase?
We can’t forget that in the last episode of Zoey 101 Chase and Zoey finally got together so…what happened? Why did they break up? Chase says “Being with you these last few years have been amazing,” to Alessa, so how long have Zoey and Chase been apart? I just don’t understand!
5. Where is Zoey
Seriously: where is she? And, okay, this might be me being selfish but, gosh darn I would have loved to actually see Zoey say Chase was her soul mate, as Zoey and not through Michael.
6. This isn’t a question but—Michael is the best roommate/friend ever!

He not only remembered it to the day, but he dug up the capsule and sought Chase out to deliver the news immediately, AND he had the best timing by running in before Chase proposed. (Still jerkish of Chase to rush out, but at least he didn’t propose and then seek Zoey out…that wouldn’t have been good.)
7. What’s next?
The short ended with “To be continued…” so there will hopefully be more to come, but what and who will we see? When will we see it? I for one hope to actually see Zoey, first of all, and secondly I would love for there to be an hour long special or a movie of some sort to reunite the cast and see where they all are now. #WeWantAZoey101Reunion?
Unfortunately for now, we are left waiting...again.
