I have been a cat owner for a little over a year, and while I love my cat to death, I've definitely discovered how weird and fickle cats can be. I know that I am not a crazy cat lady (okay maybe a little bit) for talking to my cat on a daily basis. These are a few things I've found myself repeating while talking to my cat.
1. "Don't knock that off the table."
For some strange reason, cats love to knock things off of shelves and tables. I believe they get a kick out of watching our panicked faces as we attempt to clean up the mess they've made. Cats seem to lose their ability to hear when they are on the verge of making a mess.
2. "Is this cold, clean, fresh water still not up to your standards?"
Every time I give my cat fresh water, he dips his paw in the bowl to ensure its temperature is what he is looking for. If it isn't, he stares at me until I try again.
3. "Why are you staring at me?"
This is almost a daily question in my house. Cats enjoy making their owners feel uncomfortable by staring at them from weird spots in the house.
4. "It's 2 in the morning, NOW you decide cuddles are acceptable?"
I adopted a rare cat who loves to cuddle, but he still has a tendency to cuddle only on his time. If you try to cuddle a cat any time other than when they are ready it is as if your love is too much. Cats have found the optimum cuddle time: at 2 in the morning when you are already full into dreamland but they sit on your neck anyway.
5. "Nudge up against me all you want, you still aren't getting my food."
Cats are entitled creatures. Everything and anything belongs to them (including our souls), and they make sure that you know that. Even if cats don't eat the food you are enjoying, they still want to take it from you simply because they feel as though they deserve it more.
6. "Why are you wet?"
This is one always a fun question to ask that usually kicks off a very tiring investigation. Was it the toilet? The tub? Did you knock over your water dish?
7. "Are you staring at a small bug, or a ghost?"
Walking into a room and seeing your cat very intently staring at a corner of the room is always a scary moment. Sometimes the investigation leads to a bug, but sometimes you don't find anything and must accept the fact that your cat can see dead people.
No matter how many times we may question our cat's actions, there is no better feeling than having the purring fur ball come cuddle up next to you just because they want your company.
