The college application process: possibly the most brutal and stressful few months a high schooler can endure. Most people revive at least one or two denial letters.

Instead of stressing over it, focus on a new school and accept the school that you got denied from is not a perfect fit for you. If they did not need you, they are missing out. If it is still too much to bear, there are luckily a few strategies to cope with the denial letters.

1. Burn all apparel associated with the college.

You know that sweatshirt you kept tucked away in your closet. You were too superstitious to wear it because you were scared it would cause you bad luck. That sweatshirt deserves to disintegrate to ashes. If this is too dramatic for your taste, donate the sweatshirt or give it to a friend. Just get it out of your house and out of your head.

2. Forever root against them at sports games.

If people are watching a game they are playing or even worse, your school plays their team... ignore them and root for whatever the opposing team is. Silently root against them in your head. Embrace your new school's sports' teams!

3. Unfollow on all social media.

Leave the Facebook group, unfollow on Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram. No need to be constantly reminded of them in your daily feed and notifications. After all, college emails and constant updates get super annoying after a while. Remove their distraction from your life.

4. Email them back a sincere thank you letter.

Dear admissions committee,

I appreciate your criticism of my years of hard work. It was even better because I was gifted with your decision on my birthday! Your dorms were disgusting anyways and everyone seemed super snobby. You are missing out.

xoxo

5. Act like you never even applied.

Embrace your new school and never look back on the dreaded application process. If that college did not pick you, it was not the perfect match for you. If they don’t need you, you don’t need to worry about them. Everyone will find their right school.

6. Tear the letter to pieces.

If you didn’t delete the email, print it out and shred it to pieces. If you received it in the mail; stomp on it, spit on it, rip it up, throw paint on it etc. Do whatever you need to do to release your anger. It can’t fight back so hurt it like it hurt you.

7. Buy a cake and celebrate yourself because they did not need you anyways.

If you are feeling extra, buy a cake and throw a candle in it. Celebrate the break up with that certain college. You weren’t worth their time and you deserve a reward for the mere energy and effort you put into the application.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
