Recently I developed a curiosity for death. Truthfully any of us can be taken from this earth at any time. At first this thought frightened me but as time went on, it inspired me to live a full and enlightened life. I do not know what happens after death but I do know that I have a time on earth. I need to make the best of my life and live with passion, love, and curiosity. Buddha said, “In the end these things matter most: How well did you love? How fully did you live? How deeply did you let go?” Planning and thinking about the course I want to take inspires me to live the best way I can live.
1. Listen to every album by The Beatles
My father named me after the album ‘Abbey Road’ and I listen to their songs frequently. But, I never had the chance to listen to every song on every album. Music enlightens the soul, inspires people to endure tough situations, and inspires people to enjoy the joyful times. I could not think of a more perfect band to take the time to listen and to interpret their songs fully.
2. Read the WHOLE Bible
In my theology class, we read certain sections of the Bible and I realized that it was rewritten with such brilliance. The abundance of numerical symbolism and imagery makes the passages extremely meaningful and enticing. Despite the nature of my beliefs, the Bible reveals wisdom and insights from the past.
3. Write a Collection of Poetry
Thoughts, emotions, and experiences shape our lives and writing them down makes for a good memoir and guide for the future. Words touch people in ways other art forms cannot. I love to read poetry and adore the connection the poets make with their audience. When I decide to start writing it would be for personal use, but I could reread it when I feel similar emotions. Reading my perspective during that certain time would help me to deal with situations in the present.
4. Routinely make the time at night to look at the stars
I get such a sense of tranquility when I look at the starts at night. It feels as if my problems possess a tiny nature compared to the size and grandeur of the earth and sky. I hope to make it a monthly or even weekly event to just sit, lay or stand and look at the night sky, alone or with someone.
5. Go on a photoshoot (just for fun)
Taking pictures gives us the opportunity to try to keep and cherish a moment forever. I would love to go to a big city, an empty field, a flower garden, or somewhere simple just to take pictures with a friend. Searching for spots to take pictures would lead us to interesting places and make us explore an area we might not have before.
6. Try to challenge and figure out my spiritual/religious beliefs
Spirituality and religion greatly influence the way we live our lives. Through others or ourselves challenging our beliefs, we start to think about if God exists, who He is (if He does exist), how to establish a spiritual relationship with Him, and what religion our beliefs fall under. I want to outline what I believe so that I can live my life with an understanding of my beliefs of a supernatural/divine being.
7. Try to daily live life with kindness, compassion, and love as a priority
This goal will stick with me to the grave, but it is important to live a full life. I believe that if I focus my energy on living through positive actions, everything I will need in life will come natural. I think that happiness comes from our courage and ability to create happiness within ourselves and project that to others. Once others receive your happiness, they will become inspired to do the same.
