Food allergies are pretty common right? Maybe you have a friend with food allergies or maybe you are like me and you are blessed to have 26 different food allergies and sensitivities. Fall semester of my sophomore year, I was told of my lovely needed lifestyle/diet change. So, my carefree college days were over by Fall Break. Did I try to ignore them at first? Of course. Did it work? No. After a year and half of this journey, I decided it's time to reflect on what this struggle really feels like.
1. "Hey there's only a little in here, are you sure you'll get sick?"
Um, yeah I'm sure. This is a high stakes game, you can't just test out the waters, trust me I've tried.
2. "But it tastes so good. If I were you, I'd just eat it anyway."
Why do people think this is helpful? Please just stop. Think about what you just said, 'it tastes so good' you think I'm just giving up cake for the heck of it? I promise I'm aware it tastes so good. It's just that bad, did you ever think about that?
3. "It can't be that bad"

It's honestly the worst thing in the world and at the moment, you would literally do anything in the world to just make it stop.
4. "Please, I really want to eat here, I'm sure we will find you something to eat."
I just love it when a restaurant has a "low gluten" menu.
5. "So you can't have bread... But can you have this cookie?"
Please, I appreciate the thought. However, unless you have food allergies as well and are very strict about them, then just let me worry about what I can eat.
6. "Give me a list of your allergies, I want to make you something!"
See above reasons.
7. "Wow, that sucks I'm sorry."
At last, we agree on something. Now quit reminding me of how much it sucks.
Having food allergies sucks, but at least we aren't alone right?
