Music festivals are all the rage right now. But, you never quite know what to expect until you attend one. I went to my first music festival, Osheaga, this past weekend and learned a lot of useful things that I will remember for my next festival. From performers to food to what to do during your down time, here are a few tips to make your festival experience the best it can be.
1. Water is your best friend.
Bring a giant water bottle with you and be sure to fill it up at the water stations every chance you get.
2. Try every food truck you can.
Food trucks should be loved and appreciated for their cheap yet delicious food. Hit up every one that you can, you won't regret it.
3. Meet new people.
People come from all over to attend music festivals, and getting the chance to meet new people while waiting for an act to start is a great way to pass the time.
4. Go to random acts.
Even if you don't know that performer onstage near you, walk over and listen anyways. Chances are you'll discover new music that you enjoy.
7. Get close to the stage.
When your favorite performer is on, try to go early and get close up. The wait may be a while and you may have to push your way to the front, but it'll be worth the struggle.
6. Make a schedule.
Before you go to the festival, make a schedule of who you want to see the most and what times those performers go on stage. A lot of festivals have apps you can download that alert you before your favorite musicians perform.
7. Put your phone down and enjoy the experience.
I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to Snapchat storying all of my favorite songs and performers. But, if I could do it again, I would put my phone down and just take in the experience around me. A festival is all about what you make of it, so be sure to enjoy the amazing opportunity you have.
