7 Things I'm Nervous About: College Edition

1. I'm nervous about choosing the right classes for me. Creating a class schedule in college is much more different than getting one in high school, it is going to take some time getting used to it. Not having a normal school day will feel a bit weird, I have never had night classes or days of the week without having to go to school before. I hope the adjusting period won't be too long or confusing.

2. I'm nervous about meeting new people. I'm typically an introvert so I'm nervous that'll hold me back from making friends. One of my goals in college is to learn how to break out of my shell and be open to meeting new people. I hope I will be able to push through my shyness and make good connections.

3. I'm nervous about having new professors. I hope to find professors I can form a connection with and that will be good mentors. I also hope to find professors that are not too tough.

4. In high school I was part of the Science Olympiad Team and a Mentorship Program. I hope to be able to find extracurriculars in college that will challenge me and work with my class schedule and also provide me with long lasting relationships.

5. I'm nervous that I won't be able to keep up my GPA due to the fact that I am taking a lot of medical courses. Although, I am excited to start learning more about science and getting to work in labs.

6. I'm nervous about going to the city for school. This will be a new environment for me, and the commute will be something I will have to adjust to. On the other hand, I am excited to be able to explore the city and find internships in medical fields there.

7. I'm nervous about the possibility of classes being held remotely for my first semester. Having to start college in itself can be hard to manage but doing so remotely might be an even bigger challenge. I am a bit nervous that if my first semester is conducted online that I will be missing out on having a real first semester experience.

Despite all the things I'm nervous about, I am excited to start this new chapter of my life. I look forward to making the best out of all the hurdles that get thrown my way. I hope to find myself at Hunter and become the person I have always pictured myself to be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
