We all have our hobbies. Some people are adventurous and enjoy hiking and surfing and underwater basket weaving. Others might not like leaving the comfort of their house with their worn-in bunny slippers so, like me, they just want to curl up on the couch and read a book or watch musical movies. But the great thing about hobbies is that there’s something for everyone!

Now that summer is upon us I feel like this is the perfect time to looking into some hobbies that I might not have thought about. Here are 10 hobbies that would be interesting to try this summer.

1. Extreme Ironing

If you have ever ironed and thought “how can I make this activity more interesting” then this is the hobby for you! I’ll stick to throwing clothes into the dry on a continuous wrinkle guard cycle but I applaud those who completely commit to this extreme hobby.

2. Mooing

Have you ever driven by a group of cows and mooed at them? If you have then you are on your way to mastering this interesting hobby. Who knows you might even get to compete and win some cow themed prizes!

3. Ferret Racing

First I need a ferret. Then it will be off to the races!

4.Toilet Seat Art

People, over the course of their lifetime, spend about 2 years in the bathroom. Might as well add some creativity to your surroundings and decorate toilet seats as a hobby. There is even a Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas if you are looking for inspiration.

5. Egg Shell Carving

This hobby seems like it would drive me to near insanity because I would most likely break all of my eggs. However, that means it could be a hobby and anger management in one! And besides, look how pretty.

6. Tree Shaping

I feel like you can’t master this one in a day. But if you think back to the show “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” I don’t think anything else could make you feel more like an Earthbender than shaping a tree.

7. Throwing Boomerangs

How badass is it when people in movies throw boomerangs and it actually works? It hits the bad guys and saves the day? Maybe not in that many movies, but I think it could happen! Like Katniss with her arrow, I want to be skilled with a boomerang. So watch out people; heads will get hit while I try to master this.

8. Entering Competitive Eating Contests

While I would confidently say eating is one of my beloved hobbies. I will stick with my amateur status.

9. Soap Carving

A delicate yet beautiful art form that I don't think is as appreciated as much as it should be. Also, another thing to add to the list of things one can do in the bathroom.

10. Riding Roller Coasters

This might be the final hobby on this list but this is the top new hobby on my summer to-do list because who wouldn’t want to go to multiple theme parks and sit on multiple roller coasters that send you in multiple directions. I think that sounds like a blast!

So, as I close this list of hobbies, I hope everyone understands that, while they are enjoying their summer, there is an almost endless list of possible hobbies that people can try. Whether you are just trying to get outside and run more, or if you are wanting to skydive with your iron and a wrinkled shirt, it’s always important to try new and exciting things.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
