7 Simple Recipes You Can Make in Your Dorm

Even though the food in the cafeteria isn't all too bad, it can get old sometimes.

When you reach the point where you don't want to go out, don't have the money, or just  want to satisfy your cravings from the comfort of your own room, here are some things you can make in your dorm!

1) Frozen Peanut Butter (or Nutella) and Bananas

This easy to make study snack is not only healthy but also extremely delicious.

  • Ingredients: 3 medium ripe bananas, 1/2 tbsp all natural creamy peanut butter or Nutella, 1oz nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt
  • Directions: Peel and mix one banana with the nonfat Greek yogurt and either peanut butter or Nutella in a bowl and set it aside. Cut up the remaining bananas on a large plate or cutting board. Smear the yogurt-banana-peanut butter/Nutella mixture on half the pieces and use the other half to make banana sandwiches. Stick it in the freezer for at least a couple hours and enjoy!

2) Strawberry Vinaigrette Salad

A healthy and yummy choice to make if you're in the mood for a light lunch or dinner.

  • Ingredients: 1/2 head of Iceberg lettuce, 1/4 cup of shredded cheese, 5 strawberries, 1/2 cup of balsamic vinaigrette dressing, chopped walnuts (optional)
  • Directions: After washing and chopping up the 1/2 head of lettuce into medium-sized pieces, cut the strawberries into horizontal slices and toss into a bowl with the lettuce leaves. Mix in the shredded cheese and if desired, the chopped walnuts as well and drizzle the dressing on top. Toss your salad with a spoon or fork and just much away!

3) Bacon Monterey Jack Panini

A more filling lunch or dinner --one that you can even take with you to class or to enjoy outside in the Piazza!

  • Ingredients: 2 slices of panini bread, 1/3 cup of shredded Monterey Jack cheese, 5 strips of bacon
  • Directions: Grab a plate and line it with a paper towel sheet and heat up your bacon for about 4 mins or until fully cooked. Taking the panini bread, place the strips of bacon on the bottom slice and sprinkle the cheese on the top slice. Place sandwich in the microwave for an additional 25 seconds or so to melt the cheese. This makes for a delicious lunch or dinner when you don't want to go to the caf.

4) Ham & Cheese Wrap

This simple and easy wrap can be tweaked to fit your cravings...or favorite kind of deli meat.

  • Ingredients: 1 flour tortilla, 2 slices of deli ham (or other deli meat), 1 slice of cheddar cheese (or your favourite type of cheese), tomato slices (if desired)
  • Directions: Once you place the ham and cheese onto the tortilla (and adding tomatoes if desired), roll up the tortilla and heat it up in the microwave for about a minute and a half. Let it cool down a little before you eat it!

5) Cheesy Quesadilla

This classic makes for a good snack or quick to go food for when you have to eat on the go!

  • Ingredients: 2 flour tortilla wraps, shredded cheese (Mexican blend recommended), and add the following as you'd like: shredded lettuce, diced tomato, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.
  • Directions: Lay one of the tortillas on a plate and sprinkle with cheese, adding on the optional ingredients of your choice. Place the second tortilla on top of the first and microwave for about 45-50 seconds or until the cheese is completely melted. Cut into fourths (if you'd like) and enjoy

6) Brownie in a Mug

For when you're just craving that little bit of chocolate in your life, and it's the perfect serving size so you won't have too much (if any at all) left over!

  • Ingredients: 1 mug, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp sater, a dash of salt, 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa, 4 tbsp sugar, 4 tbsp flour and toppings of your choosing (ie: nuts)
  • Directions: Once the butter is melted in your mug, add the water and salt and stir it well. Mix in the cocoa, sugar, and flour one by one. Stir all the ingredients until they are well mixed and then microwave for 60-90 seconds. Add a scoop of ice cream if you'd like and you have yourself a brownie in a mug!

7) Pizza Pita Poppers

This quick and easy snack can satisfy your anytime pizza cravings!

  • Ingredients: 1 shole-grain pita, 1/4 cup Low sodium pizza sauce, pepperoni slices, 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
  • Directions: Place the pita on a plate and add the toppings to it fit to your taste buds' desire. Place it in the microwave for 80 seconds. Let it cool down, cut it into bite-sized pieces, then eat it!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
