7 Reasons Why Film Majors Are Super Cool People

Since college has started, I have met a lot of different people. When I discovered that Pace University had a very popular film program, I set some stereotypes of how film majors were before I actually met them, which was very inappropriate of me. After meeting some film majors, I realized that they are actually really cool and unique people to know. Here's why:

1. They always have the best movie recommendations.

They have watched every movie that you can possibly think of, so they know exactly which movies you would like and wouldn't like. They probably even keep a giant list of a 100 movies somewhere on their phone to keep track of which movies are considered good, according to them.

2. They believe in happy endings.

Finding people with a strong belief that problems can be fixed and that happy endings still exist is hard. Film majors believe that life has a happy ending too and always encourages the people around them that things will get better.

3. They use movie logic for everything.

They think that they know exactly what to do in any given situation because of all the knowledge they have soaked in from all the movies they've seen. They know exactly how to survive a zombie apocalypse and how to get the girl.

4. They know how to take awesome pictures.

Your local film major knows how to take really cool, creative pictures. This can come in super handy if you ever need help making your Instagram more aesthetic or if you're looking to do a fun photo shoot with a friend.

5. They value originality.

Film majors crave originality and creativity. They love discovering things that aren't mainstream because it makes it so much more special. They love introducing cool, new things to their friends too!

6. They don't judge you for binge-watching shows.

A lot of people would consider binge-watching a show as unhealthy but my film major friends understand the desperate need to watch the next episode. They never judge me for wanting to watch 20 episodes in one sitting because they think it's a pretty normal thing to do on a weekend.

7. They know the dankest memes.

While scrolling through the internet, we get tired of old memes because we see it every single minute of every day and people use it all around us. Thankfully, film majors crave and love originality and always finds something new for you and your friends to laugh at!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
