1. Bars and Nightlife
Being that the United States is one of the only places where legal drinking age is 21 years old, when you travel abroad you're welcome to participate in the night action if you're 18 or over (sometimes even 16)! Now to some people maybe the bars don't seem so important but night life is a great way to make friends from countries abroad. Come on people, let loose!!! Traveling for New Years means a whole different scene than we're used to in the US, and who knows? Maybe you'll get a surprise kiss when the clock strikes midnight.
2. Weather
Below that border people!!! We always forget that its not snowing and freezing cold in other countries when the holidays roll around up here in New England. Who says you can't celebrate in warmer climates? This way you don't have to stay cooped inside watching the ball drop and playing drinking games- you can get outside and celebrate in some tropical weather! Pina colada anyone?
Even if you decide to travel to a country with similar climate, it's a new scenery and change is always great. The Eiffel Tower in the winter? Breathtaking.
3. Celebration
Every country celebrates the new year and holidays in different ways. The US happens to celebrate by creating resolutions we don't follow and watching a giant sparkling ball lower very slowly or worshiping a fat man in a red suit for Christmas time- lame!! Fireworks, parades at midnight, fun festivals- now that seems worth it.
4. Food
This one is a given people, the FOOD!! As a food enthusiast myself, I know trying new foods is lots of fun and interesting. Every culture puts their tastes together in new and exciting pairs- and what better way to experience this than at one of the many celebrations or festivals that happen during the holiday season!
5. Meeting New People
Traveling alone is a really great way to learn about yourself. It's a chance to see what makes you happy! If you're traveling during the holidays though, sometimes you need a little bit of company- everyone will be out celebrating the new year and it's a great time to meet some new friends and mingle a little.
If you're traveling with friends and family you have the chance to add to the squad as well as really immerse yourselves in a new culture together.
6. No Cooking or Cleaning
I think we can all picture our families going wild over cleaning for the Christmas party, I know my mom gets a little intense when the holidays roll around and we're about to have relatives and friends in the house. If you go away for the holidays you don't need to worry about it! No cleaning up or cooking for guests equals high relaxation and more time for lots of fun.
7. Endless Memories
Lastly, just think of the incredible times you'll have. Whether you're traveling alone, with good friends, or your family you'll have one of the most amazing trips in another country experiencing the culture for their holidays and meeting new and exciting people. Snowy escapes or sandy beaches-- it'll be an astonishing holiday full of cheer.
