With so much negativity in the world, it can be hard to acknowledge all of the great things going on in life around you. This time of the year gets especially hectic as a college student with midterms going on and finals just around the corner. Sometimes it’s hard to step back and appreciate all of the amazing things in life that we have to be thankful for.

So, in honor of Thanksgiving, here are eight things to be thankful for, not only right now, but all year long.

1. Having a job or getting an education

Although going to work or going to school may not be your favorite thing to do on earth, both of these things are such a blessing. They give your life a purpose. A job is a place where your hard work pays off, literally, and school is where you go to grow and become a better person. Getting an education is just the first step to that happy, successful life you’ve always wanted, think of it that way!

2. Home

A roof over your head and a place to call home is especially something to be thankful for. I definitely took my home for granted when I was there. I couldn’t wait to get out and go to college. Home is where memories are made with the people who are most important in your life, and that is something that should not be taken for granted. After all, home is where the heart is.

3. Food

I feel like this one needs no explanation. Food is good for the soul and there is no denying that.

4. Health

Having good health is something to be thankful for. You can do whatever you want in life with nothing holding you back. Life itself is so precious, so live it to the fullest. Take chances and try new things. We only get one shot at this life, so use it wisely.

5. Dogs

Dogs are one of the greatest things on this Earth. What is better than a little ball of fur who loves you unconditionally? They are always happy to see you. They are designated cuddle buddies. They will always stay loyal. They are everything you could ever want in this world.

6. Friends

Good friends are truly a blessing. They are people who love you for simply being yourself and will always be there for you anytime you need them. A good friend is a shoulder to cry on, a personal hype man, and a great advice giver. Never hesitate to show your friends how thankful you are for them, and let them know how much you appreciate them.

7. Family

Family is so important. They are the people that will always support you no matter what. They shower you with constant love and affection not only because they have to, but because they want to. Your family will always be there to pick you up when you are down and will never expect anything in return. Family is something to constantly cherish, all year round.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
