Looking for something to do this summer? This little island in the upper peninsula of Michigan is one of the best places to visit in the summer. The island is completely surrounded by the beautiful crystal blue waters of Lake Huron. The isolation of this island makes it a great destination to experience a bit of nostalgia. My family and I go there every year and here are a few reasons why.

1. Taking an eight-mile bike ride around the island.

This probably sounds intimidating for some people, but it actually isn't terrible. You stop often to take pictures and enjoy the scenery so you won't be sweating profusely or panting at the end of your bike ride. You also won't get lost riding this trail because it wraps around the whole island, so eventually, you'll get back to where you started.

2. Going on horse-drawn carriage rides.

If you still aren't keen on riding a bike around the island, go on a carriage ride instead! The carriage rides take you to the must-see places of Mackinac Island such as the Grand Hotel, the arch rock, and amazing views of Lake Huron

3. The fudge.

On Main street of Mackinac Island, there will be fudge shops on every corner and people handing out coupons for fudge. To my mom, this is probably one of the main reasons why we go every year. They have so many different varieties and something for everyone!

4. It's like going back in time.

One of the things I absolutely love about Mackinac is its nostalgic feel. Though they've modernized the inside of buildings, they still preserve the exterior of them. The fact that there are no motorized vehicles on the island help as well. From Fort Mackinac to little bed and breakfasts along

Main street, it'll almost feel you're walking through a mini colonial Williamsburg.

5. To relax by Lake Huron.

Throughout the bike ride on Mackinac Island, you'll see the most amazing views of Lake Huron. Not only that, there are small beaches along the way which you can stop by and take a dip in the lake (if it isn't too cold!).

6. The Grand Hotel.

If you have ever seen the movie "Somewhere In Time" starring Christopher Reeve, a famous actor known for his role as superman, then you've already seen a glimpse of the beauty that the Grand Hotel has to offer. The Grand Hotel has 393 guest rooms, each with a different theme based on lives of many U.S. presidents, first ladies as well as different time periods and historical events. The Grand Hotel also has a beautiful garden near the front of the hotel.

7. For the Instagram pictures and good Snapchat stories.

I hate to say it, but if you go on an amazing trip you have to take the best pictures and videos to post on Instagram or on your Snapchat story. It's just a given. My favorite places to take pictures are at the arch rock, the garden of the grand hotel, the rocky beaches of Lake Huron, Mackinac bridge, and in front of beautiful buildings as well as a bed and breakfasts'.
