Yes I know, you're probably thinking I've fallen and hit my head. You're probably saying to yourself, "In what world is there anything about high school that can even come close to being as amazing as college is?" Well, hear me out because as much as you wish to deny it, you will agree with me on at LEAST one of these points.

1. Free Textbooks

Boy oh boy do I miss the days in high school where every classroom had a class set of the textbooks we need. In some of the classes, we even got our own individual copy as well! And how much did we have to pay for those books? NOT A SINGLE THING? If I only knew how much I would appreciate this before having to spend over two hundred dollars on a book and the access code that goes with it!

2. Study Hall Periods

I really should have taken advantage of a good study hall when I had the chance. It was worked in the day and I could actually study or do any homework I have gotten so that I wouldn't have to it later. Now, it's a struggle to get myself to the library and do my work once I've already gone back to my room after classes.

3. Music Classes

While yes, you can take music classes in college, it's a different type of class. In high school, I could take orchestra and chorus, and it would be right in the middle of my day which was also a great break from class. I could destress by playing/singing and have fun preparing new music. In college, music classes are all about theory and such, and of course, I could join the orchestra or chorus, but they rehearse at night which is when I like to do my studying.

4. The teachers

In high school, you are with some teachers for the whole school year or even all 4 years. It's awesome because I was able to make awesome bonds with my music teachers, career planning teacher, English teacher, etc. While in college, you don’t really get to make these kinds of personal connections until you really get into your major classes.

5. Prom

Yeah, I’m that girl who had an awesome time at prom with her friends and still looks back on it as one of the best memories of high school and senior year. I wish there was something like this that you could bond over with your friends and your classmates because as you go to college, you really only know a few people depending on the size of where you go.

6. Weighted GPA’s

OK, I know the whole reason behind weighted GPA’s was because you were taking harder classes and potentially earning AP credits but hey, a girl can dream! You already know that everyone relied on those weighted GPA’s when it came to being between that tenth of a point!

7. Public school is free

While yes, public school isn’t 100% free because of school taxes, those are only a small fraction of the price that comes from tuition, room-and-board etc. I hate that I have to pay around 150 dollars just to go to an orientation that they make me attend anyway!! And why do I have to pay for a health center I didn’t even use last semester? Even when attending a PA state school, you die a little when you look at your bill for the upcoming semester.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
