7 Reasons I Am Thankful For My Mom

Mom, you are the strongest, most supportive, and understanding person I know. You have taught me so much about how to treat others, how to succeed in everything I do, and how to stand back up stronger than ever when I fall. Thank you for always listening to me no matter what (even if all I talk about is wanting a cat or puppy).

1. You always listen

Whenever I'm happy, sad, or any emotion in between I know you will always want to listen to me. You let me talk my head off about my friends, school, new experiences, and how much I love cats. You are always there as my shoulder to cry on if I'm sad or stressed about school and I love knowing you'll always be all ears.

2. You let me make my own decisions

When I come to you for advice, you tell me how you feel but you also understand that I'm going to make my own decisions, (like the time I got 2 tattoos in one day). I'm so thankful that I can ask you for your opinion without you forcing it on me but I also appreciate the times you have given me advice that has made me see the bigger picture.

3. You support me

Thank you for never thinking less of me when I don't make the best decisions. I know you will always love me and support me as long as I am happy and that means the world to me. I cherish the fact that I can tell you anything and you will still have my back.

4. You trust me

Thank you for always trusting me, my decisions, and my actions. I could never thank you enough for always knowing that I am telling you the truth about where I am going, what I'm doing, or decisions that I am making. I love knowing you trust me to make the right choices to better my future without questioning.

5.You can always make everything better

If I'm having a bad day I can always call you and immediately become reassured. You always know exactly what to say. Thank you for always making me feel like everything is going to be okay even if I don't believe it myself.

6. You've shown me how to be resilient

I've learned so much from watching you. You always stick it out when the going gets tough. You have shown me what it means to be a strong, independent, and confident woman. You taught me to be resilient in the face of adversity.

7. You always love me no matter what

I know no matter where life takes me you will always love me. Mom, thank you for everything you have done for me and the example you have set. I love you more than you know.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
