7 Questions You'll Be Asked Over Thanksgiving Break
Honor Ford

Thanksgiving break starts soon! We will be going home for almost a week, and for a lot of us, this will be the first time we've been home since August. We will be able to eat a home-cooked meal, spend time with our families, and catch up on well-earned sleep. With this being the first time for many of us to be surrounded by family and friends, there are bound to be a lot of questions we will encounter. All of these are well-meaning questions, but we might cry anyway. Here are 7 questions we will have to answer over Thanksgiving break!

1. Do you go to a lot of parties?

If binge-watching Netflix is partying, then yes. Very much so.

2. What are you going to do with your major?

I just spent the past three months burying that question in the deep depths of my mind. I'm gonna pretend you didn't ask that, and go get some mashed potatoes so that I don't need to continue this conversation. Cool? Cool.

3. Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?

No, but thank you for reminding me how alone I am, Grandpa.

4. Have you been exercising?

Food is so good, Aunt Jill! So good.

5. How are your grades?

Talking about my grades on Thanksgiving break is like taking the last piece of pie at Thanksgiving dinner. You just don't do it.

6. Do you have a job yet?

Did you ask this question so you could give me money, Barbara? Because if not, I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

7. What classes are you taking?

See the answer to question 5! Unacceptable, loving family members. Why don't you tell me about how your job is going? You don't want to? You see the problem here, right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
