The 7 Phases of Watching 22 Jump Street As A Tulane Student

As a Tulane Student, you couldn't have missed the excitement of having movie crews and stars on campus last fall. Well, all the hype was finally realized when the film hit theaters last month.

With an impressive $180 million dollar haul and glowing critical reviews, 22 Jump Street is one of the biggest movie hits of the summer. But the film is extra special to Tulane students whose campus played host, as the fictional MC State, and who themselves witnessed weeks of filming. For Tulane students, seeing the movie in theaters went a little like this...

1. The Preparation: Sharing everything you can find online to remind all your friends that it was filmed at Tulane, which is totally awesome. Also making some pretty great #ThrowBackThursdays of the back of Channing Tatum’s and Jonah Hill’s heads as they walked around campus. But who can blame us? This is BIG people!

2. Hyperventilating during the first scenes showing Tulane: So many familiar places! Does your friend sitting next to you actually realize that this is Tulane? That you walk by that building all the time? You better elbow nudge them again, just to make sure.

3. Reminiscing about Move-in: That montage with the pop-up hampers is everything you could ever want in a montage and more. Bonus shoutout to everybody who lived in Monroe!

4. Oogling over Channing Tatum: Even if you don’t think he’s as great as all the hype that surrounds him, you will at least still spend time marveling about how big his neck is. Like man, what is the circumference of that thing?

5. Scanning the background for familiar faces: It’s pretty unique that so many of our fellow students were extras, ahem I mean, “background artists.” It’s kind of awe-inspiring to see that kid from your Psychology class who you literally never talked to fake-schmoozing in the back of the frat house. An extra loud squeal is mandatory if you actually spot yourself.

6. Laughing out loud: This legitimately is a very funny movie! Everything that comes out of Jonah Hill’s mouth is pure gold, and Channing Tatum is a loveable frat-boy/goof. It’s great to be in the audience of a movie where the actors look like they’re having such a fun time.

7. Getting super nostalgic for Tulane: Finishing the movie and realizing all over again how beautiful Tulane’s campus is. Then, rushing to text all your school friends about how great the movie was. Then, realizing that your home parties can’t ever compare to your school parties, and wishing you were back at The Boot or one of our frat houses for a movie-worthy party. All these emotions come so fast, but don’t despair. August is just around the corner!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
