When you have a strong personality, you can find yourself being drawn to other people of a similar archetype. But there are some amazing cases, when you find you are getting close to a person who is so seemingly different form you, people ask “how did they even become friends?” It might seem strange but the old adage “opposites attract” has remained true for me and my best friend over the years. Here are seven things tha I have loved about having a bestie who is my polar opposite:

1. When you have a conversation with them, it’s like listening to what you would say but in an alternate universe.

You are best friends, so you obviously hold some sort of commonality. But your discussions are like listening to how you would say something just from a different perspective so you really get an idea of the full picture.

2. They make you a better, and more well rounded individual.

Weather it means you make them stand up for themselves, or they make you aware of how you can be more cognizant of other people’s feelings, you both are constantly exposing each other to different life approaches and it makes you grow!

3. You complete each other.

I am a full believer that we are ourselves as individuals without the need to search for a life partner. So when I say your bestie can be your other half I only mean to say that they really do make up for all the things or traits you might lack and vise versa.

4. You have complementary, yet also totally different strengths and weaknesses.

One of you might be good at arguing and confrontation, while the other can be really good at smoothing things over and maintaining relationships. You need a healthy does of both of these tactics in life and having someone who is soooooo skilled in your ~areas of growth~ can really come in handy.

5. Because of this, you know that people don’t even want to try and dispute your power couple #goals.

Anyone who knows you both, is aware that if they were to confront one of you, it means confronting the other. And they don’t want to do this because they know your counter attack will be so well through and indisputable because you and your bestie will have covered all the bases. Please, try us, we dare you!

6. Going on any sort of trip with them is an ideal experience.

You both are interested in different things, so you experiences you would not have otherwise! They show you new things about the world and that is invaluable! Plus, you both have just the right mix of planning and spontaneity to make the adventure both structured and breathable.

7. Your fire and ice relationship has taught you to appreciate nuance.

Though you might seem like polar opposites to everyone else, you actually have a lot in common. You might process information and express ourselves differently, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a world of things in common! I’ve learned that just because fire and ice are different, they both have fundamental properties that give make them parts of the same whole in the natural world. You need both to survive and both to create something beautiful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
