I love movies, especially ones I have to rewatch over and over again and spend days thinking about. This is just a short list of some films I’ve grown to love over the years. Though I’ve watched them all many times, each time I watch them the magic of seeing it for the first time remains the same.
1. Comet (2014)
I’ve seen this movie about twelve times and I still have no idea how it exactly ends. What (I think) I can say about this movie is that it there are six main settings and only two characters. The movie follows their entire relationship and spends a lot of time talking about the realities of life and love. I don’t want to give anything else away because I really think it needs to be seen to be, to whatever extent it can be, understood.2. Frank (2014)
If you’re into eccentric music (and movies), then this film is definitely for you. Basically, a man named Frank has worn a fake head since he was about ten years old and recruits Jon to join his band as the keyboard player. It’s hard to describe exactly what happens in this film in one paragraph, so you’ll probably just need to see it for yourself.
3. In Your Eyes (2014)
Have you ever felt like there was somebody you were so close to that you had the same thoughts? For Rebecca and Dylan, who live in New Hampshire and New Mexico (respectively) this is a reality. This movie follows the pair as they live very different lives inside each other’s minds. The changes they undergo and the challenges they face are what makes this movie what it is.
4. One Day (2011)
On the night of her graduation from the University of Edinburgh in 1988, Emma, played by Anne Hathaway, (almost) has a one night stand with a handsome man named Dexter (aka Jim Sturgess). They then agree to meet up every single year on that same day and catch up on their lives. Watching the progression of their lives both apart and together will make you go from happy to angry to sad in a snap. Also, be prepared for a very surprising end.
5. Remembrance (2011)
Thirty years after her rescue by the man she loved from a concentration camp, Hannah, who is now married and lives in NYC, discovers that Tomasz, the man who saved her, is still alive. This film follows Hannah as she searches for Tomasz and remembers her past life. This movie is actually based on the true story of Jerzy Bielecki and Cyla Cybulska. You’ll cry, you’ll rejoice, and you’ll never forget this movie.
6. The Kings of Summer (2013)
This film is about three boys in Cleveland, Ohio who decide one summer to run away and build a house in the middle of the woods, because why not? The star-studded film shows the struggles of two digital natives (and a kid who still uses a beeper) as they try to survive in the wild, “as men.” You’ll be so attached to the main characters that you won’t want the movie to end!
7. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
This movie tells the adventures of the concierge of a famous hotel, Gustave H., his newest companion, the lobby boy Zero Moustafa. It has everything: murder, theft, secret clubs, and the beginnings of a major war. Told as a flashback by the lobby boy himself, The Grand Budapest Hotel holds stories one won’t forget quickly.
