It's hard to not like country music. Not only is it catchy and features artists with the perfect southern twang, but it shares a story. Sad stories, happy stories, drunk stories - they can all be found in a country song. Country lyrics are the captions to your instagram pictures, your twitter bios and words to live by. In particular, Keith Urban shares some wise words in his songs. These are some of the things he's said that really speak to us.
"It’s just a whiskey glass if you ain’t makin’ a toast." (Raise ‘Em Up)
Everyone knows you should always cheers to something. Something should always be toasted to. Whether it be good grades, bad grades, broken relationships or fixed relationships. You should begin every drink with cheers. Drink to something, give your glass a purpose!
"Running for it would make a good story" (Cop Car)
Everyone says you won’t remember the nights you stayed in. Live a little. Gather some stories to tell your future children – even if they don’t believe their parent could be that cool. Keith fell in love in the back seat of a cop car, where would you?
"I don’t need a whole lot of anything. I just want a little bit of everything." (Little Bit of Everything)
Keith’s trying to tell us “experiences over things” with this one. He’s letting us know to try more things than to be excessive with one thing. Yeah a garage full of cars is nice, but so is a chill song and getting your groove on. It’s the little things, right?
"I wanna cool chick that’ll cook for me, but’ll dance on the bar in her tan bare feet" (Little Bit of Everything)
Wifey material, am I right? If this is all Keith Urban wants, sign me up. I’m an expert on elevated surfaces and could learn how to cook easily enough – right? We’ve always wanted a guy who could appreciate our love for dancing on the bar. He explains it in a way that makes her sound like she has a good balance, capable of a level of chill and domesticity, but still a good time after hours.
"Take your memories, I don’t need them" (You’ll Think of Me)
Nothing is worse than hard memories. How much better would life be if you could just give all the memories that hurt away after a bad breakup with a significant other or a friend? You don’t need those anymore, just give them away. Keith’s telling us to put them away, in the back of your mind, or just forget them altogether. Who needs ‘em?
"Never grow up, Never Grow Old" (John Cougar, John Deer, John 3:16)
Forever young - that’s the goal here. Young at heart, young in the soul. We can grow up and get adult jobs and be sort of responsible and all that jazz. But we really never want to grow up and old. Keith shares that mentality with us.
"Stupid Boy" (Stupid Boy)
Because sometimes you just need to blare a song like this at top volume and just let it sink in. Whether you’re hesitating to find out if he’s a stupid boy or if he is most definitely, one hundred percent, a totally and pure stupid boy, this song speaks to your soul. Keith tells him off like your best guy friend would.
