So, I am sure everyone has heard of "Grey's Anatomy." It is a genius, heart-wrenching TV series based on the work, personal and romantic lives of surgeons in Seattle that has had 12 successful seasons and counting. This TV show has touched the hearts of people worldwide. Every episode messes with your emotions like you are on a roller coaster. The show has its ups and its downs.
So here are seven times "Grey's Anatomy" broke your heart.
1. The Death of George O'Malley
From the beginning we loved him. He was the sweet, passionate guy who would not harm a fly. He was everyone's friend. His death was shocking and hard to get over. Along with the characters, we too as viewers had to grieve over his death.
2. Bonnie Crasnoff and Tom Maynard
Although they were not in more than one episode of the series, these two people had a huge impact on the characters and us. The two people who barely knew one another had such an emotional bond. The accident was a tragedy. Bonnie made the ultimate sacrifice. She made the devastating decision to end her life so Tom had a chance. She accepted only one of them could live. Tom's surgery was successful and he continued on with his life. How could this episode not turn your eyes into waterfalls?
3. The Death of Lexie Grey
This episode was horrible from the beginning. I never thought Lexie Grey would die. I was shocked again. Shonda Rhimes really likes to surprise you while basically ruining your life. Character deaths are impossible to get over. Seeing her slowly slip away as her true love, Mark Sloan, stayed by her side reassuring her of their future lives together, was heartbreaking. I really grew to like her just like Meredith has grown to love her sister. Once she passed away, Meredith and Mark were crushed, and so was I. How could you do this to us Shonda?
4. The Death of Mark Sloan
Dr. McSteamy. The flirt, the handsome one, the skillful surgeon, and so much more. Despite his witty, sarcastic and flirtatious ways, he was a genuinely great guy. We viewers were able to see that. It took the characters time to warm up to him, but once they got to know him, they saw what we saw. Once again, I didn't believe that he could die. He was a huge part of this show, and just like that, he was gone. Shonda even teases us with his "surge" of what seems to be good health. Then everything goes downhill, and once again we are left to mourn.
5. The Death of Denny Duquette
Although we did not know him long, we have gotten to know him in the time we had. He was a true gentleman who was in such poor health but pushed through it for Izzy. Despite his bad health, he tried to remain strong and witty. He made us laugh and he made us cry. He even survived the cutting on his L-vad wire. I thought he had a real chance, but I was wrong.
6. Christina Yang
Okay, so she did not die like the other characters, but you are lying if you say her leaving did not shatter your heart. She was our person. She was there from the start. She was strong, smart, and more than passionate about her career. She was by Meredith's side through every curve ball that life threw at her. We knew no one could compare to Yang. She's irreplaceable.
7. The Death of Derek Sheppard
Dr. McDreamy. Well, I am sure you knew this was coming. This had to be the most heartbreaking episode of all. I am not sure what's more sad, Derek's death or Meredith's goodbye. His final moments were so painful. He left so much behind. He broke so many hearts. Not just fictional hearts, but all of our hearts. Just like our dearest Yang, Derek Sheppard cannot be replaced. Meredith cannot find a love like theirs again. They were true soulmates. If Shonda decides to give Meredith another chance at love, it won't be anything compared to their "Post-it" type of love. He was a guy in a bar that turned out to be Meredith's soulmate.
Fictional deaths can be devastating, especially when you grow a love for the characters. Shonda Rhimes is brilliant. I just wish maybe she would stop killing off all my favorite characters. I know there are plenty more heartbreaking scenes, but this is my top seven.
