7 Awesome Commercials You've Never Seen Before
Frank Okay

An unfortunate stigma follows commercials everywhere they go. The general consensus being commercials are just boring advertisements for products you don't need. The only real purpose they serve is to inform viewers the program they're watching is over and it's time for a restroom break. With the exception of the Super-Bowl, commercials seem to only be an outdated annoyance that streaming services are making obsolete anyways.

However, there are some exceptions to this ideology. There are some truly hilarious, heart-warming, and flat out spectacular commercials out there that don't get enough play. The following list is dedicated to just a few of those amazing advertisements you might have never seen before.

7. Spider-Man Meets Spider-Baby

Spider-Man is a lot of people's favorite superhero for a reason. His relatability is evident and his personality is infectious. So when Spider-Man meets his former baby-self in this Evian commercial, as impossible as it is to predict how they'll interact, it's a guarantee this showdown is going to be a blast for them both.

With one seriously awesome "Here Comes The Hotstepper" remix playing in the background, Spider-Man and Spider-Baby engage in a dance-off, rope-jumping competition, and even a game to see who can create the better looking Queensboro Bridge out of web. It's an incredibly entertaining commercial and further proof that people everywhere love to watch a dancing baby.

Especially if the dancing baby in question is Spider-Man.

6. Mr. Clean Has An Inspiring Origin Story

The road to self-discovery is a lengthy, treacherous journey that embodies the very nature of humanity. Beginning the second we're born and ending long after we pass, our destiny is a delicate yet extraordinary fate undecided by ourselves but by the powers too impossible to comprehend. This path waits for no one...not even Mr. Clean.

Discovered as a baby cleaning dirt off a farmer's porch, Mr. Clean was adopted as a son by that farmer and his wife. As he grew, so did his insatiable passion for cleaning. This passion became his life's purpose as Mr. Clean left the nest to scour the Earth, learning, training, and vowing to make the planet clean again.

The commercial portrays Mr. Clean in a new light--almost as a folk legend of sorts. The gentle music heightens the relatable every-man qualities of Mr. Clean with his search of conquering his destiny being effectively inspiring. To add a layer of humanity to this bald OCD-ridden cartoon is not easy, but this ad proves that Mr. Clean really is the hero we never deserved. Watching his excitement in discovering old cave paintings detailing the first mop is a moment so satisfying, it's difficult not to be at least a bit touched.

The final montage of random strangers thanking Mr. Clean for his hard work is borderline superhero territory, and with lines like " The amazing part? He wasn't doing it for himself, he was doing it to help others no matter who they were, where they lived, or how big the mess was," Mr. Clean emerges from this commercial as a hero deserving of our utmost respect.

As the commercial ends with Mr. Clean making his own Super-Man pose in the middle of an empty valley, one thing is for sure, wherever a milk carton is spilled or mud ruins a carpet, Mr. Clean will be there because Mr. Clean loves us and he'll never let us down.

5. A Bit Of Disney Magic Reaches An Out-Of-State Mall

Long Island, New York was given a bit of a magical touch one day when its unsuspecting residents were given a special treat. That's right, in 1972 Robert "Rosebud" Butt invented the Long Island Iced Tea while tending a bar in Long Island and from that day forth, the world was given the greatest drink to ever exist anywhere.

Oh, and there was also this cool thing Disney did once in Long Island decades later.

On one completely average, ordinary day at a local Long Island mall, Disney decided to have a bit of fun with some unsuspecting shoppers. Installing a lit wall in a quiet area of the mall, silhouettes of iconic Disney characters would interact with any passerby, allowing for a wonderful memory for a side of the country unfortunately deprived of that famous Disney magic.

To be fair, this isn't necessarily a commercial as much as it is just a fun video, but it is simply too wonderful not to be shared. Watching people of all ages revert back to their childish wonder upon embracing the exhibit's potential is a sight just too beautiful for words.

And seeing the characters walk through the doors at the end to a crowd full of people who might never have seen these characters in person before, it's such an effective cure for any bad day. It's Disney doing what they do best- making magic even in places no one else might look. Like in the abandoned part of a mall right next to the Sears.

4. TNT Goes Way Too Far To Promote Their Network

If you're creating a show about cops, lawyers, doctors, or literally anything that you know deep down probably won't be accepted anywhere, TNT is the station you pitch to. With "hits" like "Franklin & Bash" and "Rizzoli & Isles," TNT is best known as the network with "weekly procedurals whose titles are just two people's last names" and every so often "that one network that plays kind-of-okay movies at 2 PM on Sunday afternoons." There isn't much else to this channel...which is precisely why this commercial stands out as a work of genius.

The premise is simple: a random button is placed on a quiet Belgium town with a sign saying "push to add drama." Waiting anxiously for an unsuspecting passerby to push it is an intricately complex prank with dozens of key players. The prank itself even starts out simple with paramedics failing to securely put a body in the back of an ambulance, but like all shock comedy, escalation is paramount.

This bit goes so far so quickly, part of the beauty of it stems solely in the curiosity of just how far this gag will go. Surreal imagery of a woman in underwear riding a motorcycle or a team of football players rescuing a corpse of a recent gun shot victim only heighten how amusing this skit is.

It's right when the black SUV drifts onto the scene, however, when this commercial reaches its comedy apex, resulting in one extraordinarily creative marketing campaign, and one significant highlight for a fairly standard network.

3. Pedigree Releases The Most Epic Dog Food Commercial Ever

It's always been assumed that cat people are just people that don't know what dogs are, right? The blind obedience, undying love, and cannot-be-taught devotion dogs have for us humans is something we simply do not deserve. They're "man's best friend" for a reason and it's because they wouldn't hesitate to put their lives on the line if it meant we wouldn't suffer even one ounce of sadness.

It's also because they allow us to exploit their cuteness in commercials like this one.

When Pedigree sought out to create a dog food commercial, they were tasked with taking a more traditional approach--probably a dog eating with a voice-over saying how awesome the food is and how much the dog loves it etc.--or make eating dog food look like the single most important victory anyone/anything could ever strive for.

At the sight of a bit of Pedigree dog food being launched through the air, a slow-motion montage follows of dogs jumping as high as their little legs will take them. With the burning desire in their eyes to swallow this bite, watching these dogs slowly inch closer to the flying food is stressful in the best possible way.

With a quiet musical score consistently building momentum, it isn't until the food is finally eaten before it crescendos into a satisfying burst of mental and physical fulfillment. Dogs give us so much joy every second of every day, they deserve this bit of joy, too.

2. An Ad For "Pole Position" Is Unrestrained Chaos

In a list of things the 80's were revered for, sandwiched right between John Hughes and public arcades was cocaine. All the evidence one needs to support that claim is found in this unbelievable advertisement for Atari's iconic "Pole Position."

Opening with a charming family's peaceful Sunday drive, it takes literally two seconds before the deafening screams of an invisible voice interrupt this tranquil serenity, catapulting this quiet drive into a lawless anarchy. A God-like hand descends from the heavens, picks up the car, tosses the family miles to the ground-- and into race cars--and smashes the family car into a hilariously unnecessary explosion.

What follows next is a deadly battle of a real-life game of "Pole Position" in which the family is forced to compete in. Transitioning between in-game footage and real world competition, the family must maneuver the winding track, avoiding billboards, road hazards, and competing vehicles to avoid a deadly explosion resulting in game over.

Unfortunately for our innocent family, however, the in-game explosions are much less graphic in 8-bit than in the real world. Alongside one sweet guitar solo and numerous blinding color saturations, this advertisement is the mayhem of 80's personified.

After watching the family be picked off one by one by crashing into each other or into dangerous obstacles, the ad ends with the visibly shaking family covered in ash and scattered car parts. It's clear the family has just suffered through a traumatic event but witnessing the final product of this commercial, it's much safer to assume it's the energy from the lines of cocaine these actors were probably promised in their contracts when they were hired.

1. Sainsbury's WW I Christmas Ad Is A Poignant Masterpiece

Ignoring the monumental stress that comes with the holiday season, Christmas ends the year on a hopeful and loving note perpetuated by an unending joyful spirit. To go any further into defining exactly what Christmas is and what it means is simply redundant and unnecessary, especially when Sainsbury has answered this in one of the most beautiful advertisements in the history of the medium.

Earning the top spot on this list is Sainsbury's moving depiction of the famous 1914 Christmas truce between British and German troops during the First World War. The week leading up to Christmas, the rivaling sides would cease fire to issue a temporary truce.

The armies would cross no-man's land and greet each other with gifts, songs, football games, and general Christmas merriment. This fraternization simultaneously served as a heart-wrenching reminder of the cold, distant, monotony of heartless combat, along with the gorgeous reminder of humanity's innate moral compass.

From how it looks to how it sounds, every single aspect about this commercial is virtually flawless. A gentle snowfall slowly builds momentum just as the soldiers singing "Silent Night" build their own momentum. The sounds of guns cocking are turned up louder to invade an otherwise silent atmosphere to accentuate their noticeable absence. It's small details like that sell this story, but it's the ferocious emotional core that sets this apart from other Christmas ads.

Both inspiring and devastating, this commercial is a profound look at both the destruction of war and the creation of universal love. These men were enemies in title only.

In spirit, these men became brothers. To present this idea in such a delicate manner--this was made in partnership with The Royal British Legion--and to release it exactly one hundred years after the event took place was exactly what this event deserved. The love found in Christmas is strong enough to defeat the harsh realities of war, if only temporarily.

We have this amazing commercial to inspire that love these soldiers inhabited over a century ago. Even at its most cruel, the world doesn't have to feel so small. Thanks for that reminder, Sainsbury.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

196733

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
