6 Ways to Survive Midterm Season

First, a serious thanks to those rare professors who don't follow suit and give us tests during these few weeks — y'all are lifesavers. Now, since most of us will have exams, how do you power through them?

1. Study Snacks
This might just be me, but I'm a firm believer in the study snack. Whether it's chocolate, chips, gum or coffee having something yummy to get you through your work is always a necessity. I personally grab the Dove chocolates and if I'm working at Starbucks (which, let's be honest, is more often than not) an iced chai latte is also a requirement. Treat yourself while you're working! You deserve it.

2. Take breaks
Plan out your studying ahead of time and in between tasks or during a long haul of studying, take a 10 or 15 minute break. It refreshes your brain and helps you to better stay on task while you're working next.

3. Use Quizlet
If you've never been on Quizlet before, you seriously need to check it out. It's a free study website which allows the user to both search for terms that others have made for courses that you are taking and also create your own flashcards. They have so many options of how to study these: classic flashcard style, various games, generated tests and spelling out terms. It's definitely a fun and easy way to study.

4. Go to office hours
Seriously, I know it's not exactly at the top of your list to go back to see your professors once class is over for the day. But it will help! Even if they just see your face, you're letting them know that you're trying and it will come in handy later in the semester when they're evaluating the effort that you put into that class. They want you to do well in class so go in with any questions or clarifications and it is sure to be worth the visit.

5. Get some sleep!
Sleep is important so that your brain can encode the information that you have studied to ensure that you don't forget those important terms and definitions. Try to avoid pulling all nighters and instead study plenty of time ahead of the test.

6. Try not to stress out
You have prepared as best as you can and stressing out about the test won't help anything, it will just detract from the productive time you could be using to review the information! Study hard and days before the test to ensure your success and midterms will be a breeze.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
