If you're over the age of 14, you've probably had a cup of coffee in your lifetime. It's hard to avoid it, the stuff is everywhere! According to a 2015 Gallup poll, 64 percent of adults admit to drinking one or more cups per day with the average number being 2.7. Whether you get your java from chains like Starbucks or hipster coffee shops, you're bound to hear coffee snobs spewing their "knowledge" about the substance to some poor barista who is torn between keeping her job and telling Mr. Know-it-all how dumb he sounds. However, coffee is actually pretty cool! If you want to tell people some actual information about coffee, these are the facts for you!

You heard me right, folks! Coffee beans are actually the seed of a plant. The seeds go through several processes to become the roasted wonders that we're familiar with.

The beans aren't brown as soon as they are removed from the berry; they're actually a white-green color! Depending on the roast of the desired coffee, these beans will become a variety of different colors; from white, to a dark brown. Each color supplies a different level of caffeine.
3. Coffee can't be grown naturally everywhere.

Coffee can be grown in greenhouses in some places, but in order for it to grow naturally, it has to be grown between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
4. White coffee isn't coffee with a lot of cream.
Via WiseGeek
White coffee is, essentially, under-roasted coffee beans. Instead of being roasted the traditional way, these beans are set out to dry in the heat and turn white instead of brown. These beans are much harder than the roasted variety, and therefore, require a special grinder. When brewed, white coffee tastes closer to tea than brewed coffee.
5. Espresso beans aren't unique.
Via Indeed Coffee
"Espresso beans" are actually the same beans used in all coffee products; however, the grind quality for espresso is different than what would be used for a drip coffee or french press. Espresso uses a fine grind, drip and french press used medium to coarse grinds and a cupping will use a course to an extra course grind.
6. A good shot of espresso requires three things.

The heart is the darkest color that lays at the very bottom of the espresso shot; this is where the bitterness that balances the sweetness of the shot is located. The body is a caramel-brown color that bleeds into the top of the shot, which is the crema. The crema is thin and foamy and holds the finest aromas and flavors of the shot.
